Hey Sharks..Need Some Ordering Advice on 2019 RGU

Hey Guys...need a quick reality check:

Bought my last 6 HDs off the lot. Never ordered a bike before. There's 5 or 6 major HD dealerships in my area. Waiting to see the 2019s at the end of this month before I make a decision, but leaning towards ordering a 2019 RGU. Local shops say that they are going to start putting in orders the first two weeks of September.

I've never had any issue getting $2-$3K below MSRP on any bike sitting on the floor. How do you think I will do with a bike that has to be ordered? Ideally I'd like to get $2-$3K below MSRP and the first 1000 mile service included.

Whattta you guys think? Just want ot prepare myself either way...go in informed:-)

I would say yu will not get much if anything off on an order. The deals come when the dealership is trying to get the money they put into the bikes on the showroom floor. And 2019's will be the hot item, especially with 2018 and 2017 models still on most floors. I would be prepared to pay MSRP on a 2019 for the next number of months.

The dealers always have bravado when the new bikes come out. Not so much when they're not "new" anymore.

Unless there is a major breakthrough in engineering (!!!) i would get an '18 that was built recently.

I've always negotiated a better deal ordering a truck over buying the only one equipped the way I want it off the lot.

Never tried ordering a bike.

When you say order, you mean from the factory and not a dealer transfer?

The market is down so go in with your deal and if it is not what you want then wait until they show up. Unless you are able to order something from the factory that you won't find on the showroom floor why pay more?

I got $1400 off MRSP 2018 RGS; don’t see how a custom build would get you anything off MRSP

Since I am looking at buying a pretty much standard RGU in Vivid Black then it might not make much sense to do a factory order---that is a good point. I'm in the Washington DC area. Lots of high-volume dealerships here. It might be within my best interest to wait until there are a few 2019 RGUs sitting on the floor in Q4.

I'm not rushing into buying a 2018 just yet until I see what they do with the 2019s. It probably won't be anything, but we'll know for sure at the end of August. We're still in prime riding season over here on the East Coast so bike buying right now is at a premium:-)

Expect big changes coming on the 2019 models. My local dealer has 2018 RGS discounted $5000.00 off MSRP. If you wait three more weeks the 2019's will be out and expect to pay full price. If you are looking to save some money on a new bike buy a 2018.
