Folks just noticed this recall date is 10/18, updated 10/23 (no recall number yet). Heads up.....Admins feel free to delete this if already posted, but I havent seen it here yet...
I agree, but I think its just showing that my bike is affected. It doesn't have a recall number yet, so its not posted on safecar.gov yet, so It may in fact affect 17+ bikes.
Ronnies HD parts finder only goes up to 2017, and the secondary clutch actuator is listed as a "B" part, so thats the 3rd version of it, and the recall notice lists the original and "A" part, so maybe it is a 17+ recall
With 24k on the clock and no fluid loss i'm not going to worry about it if it was going to leak I'm sure it would of by now... Besides don't want no Harley "Tech" in this area touching my bike!!
I just called my dealer service department about the junk clutch switch I found last night (won’t start in gear with clutch pulled in), and they informed me about this. Gave him my VIN for my ‘18 FLTRX and they said it’s in the affected category. New parts won’t be in until mid November. It’ll wait till spring, now.
Read about the recall this morning. Guessing it will take a while for them to get everyone one of us taken care of. Hope they ship enough parts because my local dealership is already busy now and our riding season really starts now in So Florida.
My 17 RGS shows as affected. Going to delay a little while so I can get it done as late in the life as possible. Free labor on the clutch systems may be helpful at some point.
Run your VIN on the NHTA site. My '17 RGS is affected.
Dealer says they have about 150 bikes to do, but no parts yet, probably be second week in Nov. before they do.
I just checked my vin on the NHSTA site and it is in there

Summary
The hydraulic clutch system with secondary clutch actuator part numbers 37200131and 37200131A on the subject motorcycles may exhibit an internal leak of fluid past the secondary clutch actuator piston/seal. If this leak continues for an extended period, the clutch master cylinder reservoir could lose enough fluid toexpose the hydraulic clutch circuit to air, which may result in the inability togenerate enough lift to disengage the clutch.
OK I have a question for you guys that are more mechanically inclined than me: the transmission fluid transfer issue only effects models with hydraulic clutches. Is there any chance that the fluid transfer issue and this issue are related?
I've thought on that some and I don't see how it could be related. The clutch actuation system is a really simple one. Just a hydraulic master/slave setup (although I think we're calling it primary/secondary now). It's a small amount of fluid. Just enough to fill the master cylinder, the hydraulic line and the slave cylinder. This recall is simply saying the slave/secondary cylinder "may exhibit an internal leak of fluid past the secondary clutch actuator piston/seal". So, hydraulic fluid can leak out of the system, possibly enough to render clutch disengagement inoperable.
If it does leak there, it looks to me like it's likely to simply drip out from under transmission side cover and onto the ground. Even if some did make it's way into the transmission, it'd be a negligible amount that would just mix in with the tranny oil.
I think fluid transfer issue is completely separate.
logged onto HD.com this morning. My '17 RGS is affected. I was going to keep my bike on the road for a few more weeks (I live in central NH and it's getting cold with some snow in the long term forecast) but now, I'm just going to ride to my local dealer and put it into winter storage. They can do the repair at their pleasure. I can now focus on deer hunting.
I just got off the phone with my dealer and I'm the second on the "list" to be contacted when parts come in. He read the bulletin he had been provided and it read "MotorCo will START shipping kits to dealers on November 5th, in limited supply". At this time, no one knows how many kits will be sent to each dealer or when supply will be high enough to have a steady flow coming into the shop. Just an FYI for those interested in getting the recall done.
The recall includes 2017's also. Dealer tried to call me yesterday. They tracked me down this morning my 2017 RGU is on the list. No problems with it and I am riding so it can wait to get in.
They also said Nov 5th for parts
They will eventually send you something in the mail. You do not have to wait for the letter to set up an appointment at the dealer but you do have to wait for the parts to come.
I don't think recalls expire so you can bring it in when it's convenient for you.
Ask one of the guys with more mechanically expertise but I think this particular recall isn't a rush if you have no fluid leaking.
In 2017 HD changed the Master cyl because they had issue with the earlier one. That is why clutch levers for earlier models won't fit. Seems the changed created another issue. Not to concerned they will warranty it I won't be out a dime.
wonder if they kick in their 2¢ or if the moco wrote a bad supply agreement
think i'm gonna wait on mine.
