When I traded '17 Sgs for '18 Rgs, I was floored by the retail price increase. I think it was around 10% if memory serves.

It seems that the price increases were necessary (in their eyes) to keep profits up despite the declining unit sales over the last few years... but those kind of tactics come back to bite before long.

At any rate, the plan sure didn't help support the price of their stock...

OK, now that I know you're talking about a serious sport bike, I'd change my question to:

"Isn't that what the Buell acquisition was for?"

Eric Buell designed about as much technology in his frames as anyone out there, and more so than some very big Japanese companies, however, the Sportster motor design just didn't allow it to be competitive with the performance of the 600 sport bikes it was competing against. That's why they finally got away from using the Sportster motor and went to the Rotax motor, but by that time HD had decided that it could make more money on their heavily optioned big twin cruisers and shut Buell down - despite the fact that it cost them as much to shut it down as they had invested totally in the 20 or so years they had a relationship. Not to mention the 8 figure cash outlay to have Rotax design and build the new HD/Buell motor that they never had a chance to explore it's potential due to them closing Buell. Just another couple examples of the money they pissed away during the hay day years.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!” - HST

But they are of now, and they are what the kids want. Harley has to appeal to the NEXT 3 generations it will be dead before all us Baby Boomers.

If Harley developed an APP or a Virtual Reality sim it would sell to millennials faster than actual bikes. Times are a changing my friends and these pussies dont want to ride...if they do its a sport bike for sure. They need to sell a stripped down bike ...club style or sport for 10 k. Not a 30k electric bike that no college kid can afford. Find a way HD!

You are sorry right Uncle Fuzzy, killed off too soon, I thought Buell was a great idea.

I really like that bike. It looks like a Buell and an XR1200R had a 975cc love child. If they price it like the competing Kaw Z900 at ~$9k w/ABS, it’ll probably sell well. Price it like the Thruxton R at ~$15k, and it’ll flop; H-D doesn’t have street cred in the hooligan market, and it doesn’t have the retro cafe look (w/Öhlins) of the Thruxton R.
Watch it be priced at $15k here and 7k euros overseas......

+1 Very interesting... but I agree, it must compare to the competition head to head. Most potential buyers of that bike will be looking at the spec sheets on 3 or 4 other machines and to them the winner will be clear.

My bet is they will price themselves out of the market (based on recent Moco behavior).

It will probably be priced higher than a Super Duke or Street Triple and have nowhere near the performance.

IMO that style is too modern for us fat old guys, and not modern looking enough for a millennial.

Ya think? Idk, it looks pretty modern to me. Unfortunately it's a prototype- so who knows what production will bring.
