Compared Geico, Progressive and Dairyland same coverages and Dairyland was the clear winner. May want to check them out if you need coverage. I did everything online and got a additional discount for paying in full!>
Have had them for close to 15 years. Both my bikes are insured through them, and I couldn't be more pleased! Fairly good discounts for long time repeat customer, homeowner, clean driving record, etc!. Short story, was in Florida most of the winter and totally forgot about my renewing my policy. Was about two and a half weeks late in contacting them, was honest and said "I honestly forgot, senior moment, (67 years old) can you please cut me some slack because I do want to continue with you". Without hesitation she said "Let me look into it, put me on hold for a few minutes, got back on the phone and said all is good, lets get you renewed without no void in your coverage". By law they did make me state I didn't have any issue's within the non coverage period, such as any accidents or a claim! Very satisfied customer, just my 2 cents!

Rates are constantly changing. I check rates for my house, car, and MC about once a year. For the last five years, Dairyland was the best. This year, Progressive beat their rate by about 25%. USAA linked me to Progressive. I guess USAA doesn't do MC insurance.
usaa links you to progressive. hd insurance links you to progressive (at least they used to). and then you have progressive direct.
three different ways to get progressive, and would you believe, you'll get 3 different quotes? the cheapest one i got was through hd. i've been with them since 2002. they've always treated me good. never had an 'at fault' claim, but have had 4 claims in that time period and they've done good each time.
i've shopped around in that time, but no one else has had a rate that was good enough to make me switch.
I go by how they handle claims , not rates , Dairyland on the bikes and Farmers on everything else ........ Total loss on the house in 2007 , with Farmers we had our home replacement in six days and contents in three weeks ...
Dairyland , had a $4000 claim on this bike and had the money in less than a week ......
I just ran a quote gonna check to make sure I didn't leave anything out but way less than my current Progressive coverage will be calling to talk to someone this week.
I'm always surprised that no matter how many dozens of times we have this discussion, we always end up with as many opinions as there are insurance companies.
Contrary to some, typical of others, I had Dairyland for years and never had a claim. Always thought they were price competitive. Moved from Maine to Florida and needed to get coverage right away and went back to Dairyland. Same coverage here was cheaper by about 25% than Maine. Maine you can only ride about half the year, here you ride year round. I used to live in a town of 107 people and now I live in a town of about 55,000. Gee which one is more dangerous? How FL can be cheaper than Maine I'll never understand.
I had also checked with State Farm when I moved here because I ended up going to them for my truck. They wanted more than double what I was paying Dairyland. Just this past renewal period I checked with E-surance and they saved me money on both my truck and the bike.
Near as I can tell, these insurance companies quote their rates based on some algorithym that is based on the the % of cacao in your chocolate bar, times the number of times you have to get up and pee in the night, divided by the number of hairs caught in your shower drain. Or something close to that. There is no rationale.
Well if the number of times you pee at night is in there , I have had it .. A lot of it aside from your record is your home zip code , two zip codes in the same city can be a huge difference
I wouldn't use USAA if they offered it free , when I was on active duty ( most of the 1970's and most of the 1980's ) , you could not get USAA unless you were an officer .. Now they offer it to everyone ..
Feel the same way with Geico , but different reasons ..
Wow, I didn't know that. Now any veteran or active duty person could use them. They even let my friend's 30 year old daughter get a policy for being a relative of a veteran. They're a business. They don't give a crap about anything but profits.
so because they've relaxed their standards to include all active duty, you won't use them?
i've been with usaa for over 45 years, 6 of them as a dependent. when i went active duty, even though i was enlisted, i was able to get my own policy as an ex dependent now on active duty, even though i wasn't an officer.
On any given day a few riders with everything the same . Bikes, record , credit rating. will get different rates from the same companies. It is a pricing game. They are always looking at what the market will bare.
I had progressive for years great rates . Then they almost doubled them for no reason. It was my turn to be a test case. Dropped them went to another and got better than what I had been paying.
They will pick a zip code and change rates for a percentage of those in it . Look at how many they retain , how many they lose. If they don't lose to many they will then do another increase.
If they jack you up find a new insurer .
