The best two things I have bought for my bike for $1 or less

Tired of wind buffeting despite your non-stock screen?

Thinking you got the wrong size screen?

Hating your helmet, thinking that might be the issue?

A little weary from the noise after 50/100 miles?

I HAVE the answer. And it's mad cheap.

Now, I generally ride 50 miles at a time...I commute that distance each way on my bike 3/4 days a week.

I have ALWAYS ridden with earplugs. Don't you? It really cuts fatigue....and I can still hear the motor and any untoward noises, AND that massive truck coming up behind me on the freeway.

But today marked a huge change.

I have been getting plenty wind noise on my new RG around the helmet despite the excellent 13in Freedom Shield. And when I am on the freeway I have been ''checking'' turbulence at 60-70mph with my left hand and there's actually very little around my upper body and face. Only very high on the helmet....and above the helmet....that's where the wind is really being directed now. But so much noise in my ears......it's been grating me to be honest.

I've been riding with the same brand of earplugs for 20yrs. Got hundreds of them free from an old place of work. They are the ones on the LEFT here....

.....well today I decided to try another brand because I felt sure that I could block out more noise.

VOILA!!! The ones on the right, 50c a pair, have made a huge HUGE difference to my riding enjoyment. The wind noise has decreased by possibly 60-70% at speed compared to my original earplugs...

Give it a try. USE earplugs, or TRY NEW ONES. (Stereo-upgrades fanatics excepted of course, but for me the M8 motor is the music)

You might be as amazed as I was. I still had about 50 pairs of the free ones from my old job, but they just went in the trash

I can't agree more. When going on longer rides I put some in too. Cuts out all the wind noise, no problem hearing the radio, in fact i can hear it better, or other things you NEED to hear.

I’ve always been anti-earplugs & you just convinced me to give them a try

At $0.50 per set, 3/4 days per week and lets say you only use one set per day, that is $150-$200 per year. Why not just have custom molded ear plugs made that can be reused for years? I have two sets - one with vents that let in more noise and one set made extra thick that I wear at the gun range - each pair was $150 and have lasted me years now. (I don't wear plugs while riding, though).

I had a pair of custom ones as well. Lost one a couple of years back. Haven't replaced them yet, but it was worth it.

I bought these about 10 years ago and use them every time I ride. I think they keep the wind out of your ears as good as any other plugs but allow more sound in at the same time. I just checked and they are still in business: earplugstore.com. These plugs are called Windtamers and they say they are designed specifically for motorcycles. They are listed at $8.53 a pair. I actually just ordered 2 more pairs as back ups. FYI, I rarely wear a helmet and when I do, it's a half helmet. They do stick out of your ears a little so I don't know how well they would fit with a full face or ¾ helmet.

Both of my sets are attached with a long string and a clamp on the string that you can attach to a jacket or shirt. You can pull one out, let it hang as it won't go anywhere. You lose one. you lose them both.

I would use one set a fortnight for 50c. And not care if I lost one and had to double that usage. Price of a bottle of wine a year without freaking out if I lost custom-made ones....
