I’m sure some of you have changed out the radio from the 4.3 to the 6.5.

Here are are a few questions / confirmations I’m look for answers on:

1. I believe if I buy a used one, it doesn’t need flashed to work. Would like to confirm this.

1a. If I buy a used one, does it matter what model it’s from, will one from an ultra or limited or street glide work in my Road glide? I will guess street and road would have the same “flash” or programming due to no rear speakers. Just not sure about an ultra, or one from a bike hat has bag speakers. DO I NEED TO BE CONCERNED WHAT A USED ONE COMES OUT OF?

2. My 4.3 without any modifications, let’s me control my iPhone music from the hand controls, but can play via my Sena SMH 10. No volume control, but can scroll through music and change things upon the 4.3. - I don’t feel lik this is a normal thing from reading posts from here. Will I still be able to do that?

3. I see prices for used all across the board ranging from $400-$1000 on sites like EBay. All say in good working condition. Is one model year better than others, or they exactly the same from 14-18? Is there anything I should look for to make sure I get a good, clean, functional unit?

Thanks for your input. I will probably hold out on one until I can get one closer to the $400 range.

I think the radio is the same over those years. But the interface to the bike is different (firmware not hardware). So a 15 may not require anything and have full function. And 16-17 may need a different flash and have different functionality. I'm no expert but that's the jest of what I've read here.

Are you stuck on HD ? Why not go aftermarket and leave the firmware downloads behind ?

Yes, I want all the functionality so I can see the oil pressure, outside temp, and being able to see if the ETIMS is engaged, etc.

I just took a Boom GT out of my RGS this past weekend, let me know if you're interested. It will come with the GPS antenna and USB cord. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.
