19 GTS Radio in a 18 RGS

Now, before anyone points out the cost of putting the 19 GTS Infotainment center in a 18 Road Glide Special:

I have read many posts on our forum on audio upgrades, big bore kits, cams, fantastic wheels, better shocks and adding/improving just about everything we can on our bikes. Our members have great bikes, trikes, modified or not and many of those improvements are in the same price range.

After way too years of water under the bridge, this is what works for me. I like the way the new GTS radio works and I like Apple Car Play. It is a whole lot cheaper to do this upgrade than to purchase a new bike. I was able to work out a good price on a new GTS radio, so I went for it.

I have ridden only for few times, but I am good with the change.

Comments are welcome and a good ding is always appreciated.

I just installed a new cam on a forum members 19 RGS and I have to say that in only a short couple of test rides I dig the new system much better than the older version. Just the ease of access to get to other screens was an improvement to me but maybe not a big deal to others. I will have to say that if I find a 19 take-out system I will jump on it for the right price.

So was it as easy as they say it was to install? I take it you used the SoundZ cable/adapter? I haVe a 2016 and looking to do the swap but my concern is not being able to have the oil pressure readout.

It was very easy to install. If you get the radio and adapter from Soundz, you do not need to flash the radio, unless you have the WHIM/amps/added speakers etc. I just got the adapter from Soundz, so the dealer had to do a flash, but I have the WHIM, so I would have needed to get that flashed anyway.

True, you do loose the oil pressure readout, you will only get “ok”. For me that was not an issue, because that is what I had anyway. I understand that if oil pressure is not correct, a message come on the display to warn you. That is what a tech told me.

One thing to remember when doing this swap is if you ever need your radio flashed or if a dealer ever has to hook up to do any radio work at all it won’t work without a 19 ecm. The owner of my local dealer did this swap because he is a soundz dealer and when he went in to try to flatten the eq it wouldn’t let him. He had to borrow an ecm out of a 19 to do it. Most people may not ever care but just thought I’d point it out.

Thanks for the info. Biketronics offers a flash module to flash the radio to flatten the eq curve BUT I have not talked to them to see if it would work with a swap setup.
