So my 2019 rgs with the 114 motor hits a wall at 110mph. 4000rpms. Now I don't drive that fast, so please refrain from the comments about it. But on an open road I know well, and had no vehicles on it, I decided to find out it's top speed. I assume a few people were curious like me. Hit 110 at 4000rpms and bike fell flat. So I assume it's governed to 110. Not a big deal, but still an annoying thing to have.
My Highball is governed at 120(tried it a few times lol). Many have been able to over ride it from what I’ve read on Vic forum and sure it can be done on Harleys too. Pointless to me since at hwy speeds like to hang around the 80-90 range tops during normal interstate rides
That's 3mph better than it was. I know that when the 107 came out that's where it hit. Same with my 16. With my FP3 and a higher limit I was able to hit 119mph. Had to do it twice to see if I could seek out that extra 1mph. Lol.
Cars are governed at the speed rating of the tires the manufacturer puts on them, per DOT regulations. I would imagine motorcycles fall under the same regulations. I have a ThunderMax tuner, I think the governed speed can be changed or eliminated.
My thoughts on this is that they governed the bike's top speed because:
A) They didn't want to go through the cost of all the extra testing to ensure the entire system is stable at speeds no one can legally go.
B) They know there is a problem that pops up at higher speeds so they did it for safety.
My 1977 Yamaha 750 triple got up to well over 100 mph on 11th street in Daytona Beach. The windshield on the frame mounted fairing started bending toward me.
My 2012 Kawasaki Concours 1400 was governed at 152 mph. Earlier models at 168 mph. I only ever saw 130 on a lonely section of I-10.
I'm assuming the fairing change that relocated the mirrors for better visibility had them reduce the top speed.
I may be wrapped up like a deuce or douche (ha) and blinded by the light, but I think my '19 fatty got up 115.
1st run I hit 110 and thought, I didn't feel a limiter, so then thought - let's see - and then the 115. Not sure though, rough to look down for a long period of time in highway traffic. Just ask Eddie about our traffic.

2019 on a 114 road glide and it seems that the limiter is a rpm setting. Fifth and sixth gear top around 4500 rpm hence the “speed restriction”. since the addition of my power vision and a few other modifications, exhaust and intake, I have raised the RPMs in all gears to 6500. She now pins the speedo and keeps pulling. Had to put the digital speedo on the gas radio to see how fast she’s going. So far been up at 124 mph; in Mexico of course ?, but she still felt like she had a bit more.
Nope. Definitely a speed limiter. There is a rev limiter set at about 5500 rpms for stock but if you go with an HD stage kit the rev limiter goes up to just over 6k rpms maybe 6400 rpms for the Stage III/IV kits. No way to turn it off if you stick with the HD Street tuner. The reason you could get yours up to 124 is because you switched to an after market tuner that does not have the limiter.
109 was top on mine with a passenger. Tried to lie about it but apparently GPS stores your top speed in memory:serious: The handling badly disappeared so now I make it 90 tops! damn i must be getting old
Top speed is kinda B.S. lol. Fun to try out once in a while but get up and go passing power and torque is all that matters to me and my Harleys have all done fine in that department and satisfied with them. Don’t need Hyabusa speed to enjoy a bike!
If I am traveling on the slab I usually run about 80ish. if traffic is moving faster so am I. sometimes I like to pass a few cars and get up around a hunion or so. and sometimes on the twisties I drag a pipe now and then. I havent experienced any wobble or unstable handling but I keep hearing about it and wonder if its going to show up in a curve or somewhere. It does seem unpredictable though and apparently its not just on older machines. Just how common is it?
Well I was driving across Montana today and just wanted to see what it would do. I swear my 2011 RGU would go faster than 110 mph but my 2015 CHI CHI tops out at 110 mph. I got it up to 115 mph going down a hill but that's it.
I hit 112 mph in 5th on my 19 RGS stage 4
Which is 180kph....she goes like stink until that, then flickers 179-180kph.
Got bored on the way to Sturgis and averaged 95mph between fill ups on one stretch between fill ups.
Lotsa 100+ miles and down to 70 for the po po twice.
The things you do to fight boredom : )
My 107 is stock, but has an improved tune from Fuel moto using a power vision. red line is about 6,200 RPMs now. No different han it was on other recent years
