Twincam, rushmore twiincam or M8?

Been always wanting a RG since i sat on a 2012 RGSE in Cobalt blue. Had a Road King Custom in the states, met my wife riding and then moved to Germany. Got very lucky with buying a new E-Glide Ultra left over, for major bucks off. but always really wanted a RG. Now I work on my own and was trained ina dealership and school here in Germany and have a workshop at home. I built a 06 Sporty this spring and its great but i really am thinking of selling it and my problem free Eglide so i can buy a RG. They are not so common here and hard to find, i find a lot of imported ones, not originally for this market.

So my question , finally getting to guys, is which to buy? I really like the Rushmore style but am not sure about the M8s. so I thought about the 15-16 twincams.

Thanks for all constructive opinions and for the laugh of dipshit answers too.

MY HO 103 IN MY 2015 RGS HAS 54,500 MILES AND IT HAS BEEN SPOT ON PERFECT.

This engine has been great.

My buddies that have new bikes love the M8.

That is going to be your own decision brother.

Good Luck.

Thanks for your input. I like to hear that about your bike. I also like the color. my old RKCustom was chrome yellow pearl or something like that. Drew lots of attention, the good kind.

My 2010 has also been spot on with 50 k. I'd think it comes down to money. Buy the newest you can afford. I never heard anyone saying they like the Twin Cam better then their new M8.

If I have to explain ,you wouldn't under stand anyway.

I have had the twin cam and now the M8, I like the M8 better. Good luck in whichever you decide, both are good bikes.

The only difference in the TC and what people cll the Rushmore TC is that obviously the water-cooled heads that came on the Ultra's. The reason they named it the HO TC is that they gave it a slightly more aggressive cam. Other than that it's really the same engine. Now if you don't need the infotainment, the new style latch on the saddlebags, or the vents in the fairing then an 09'-13' would be a great bike for little money. If you like all the new upgrades to the bike itself then the 15' & 16' bike is going to be a little more but still much less than an M8 and like has been stated above is a tried and true machine. The M8 has even more get up and go right out of the box and it is an awesome machine but will cost you the most to get the bike. Since you can work on your own machine I would lean towards one of the TC's since you don't need to worry about all the warranty and EPA crap. If you want to get the M* and not worry about that stuff anyway it's a great platform for larger builds in that you can go with a 117", 124", or 128' kit and not have to touch the crank or bore the cases. If you want to do a 120"+ kit in a TC you are looking at more money and more work. Just something to think about as it is up to your budget and how you plan on modding the bike. Good luck!

I've had all 3. And you cant go wrong with any one of them. My 16 did have a mechanical issue at 19k. The hardened surface of the rollers on the lofts came apart and clogged up the journals of one lifter causing it to collapse. had to rebuild the entire cam chest. While I dont think it's common. When I described the issue at the performance shop they told me what was wrong before they even opened it up. So they seen enough of it to know. Would I get another twin cam? Yep. Without hesitation. Great motor. My 16 was my dream bike. Now on the 114" M8. Ya. Its badass.

Good luck with whatever route you take.

After 7 Harley big twins, I bought a new 2015 RG special. It is the finest bike I have ever owned and I will not ever trade this bike for anything. Good luck in your search.

Had 4 twin cams and all were great. Many on forum like their M8s and felt great when I test rode one. Wait and see what Harley comes up with first in a week or 2 for 2020. Should be revealed during Sturgis rally
