Waiting for a 2020 Limited to come in and found a 2016 CVO RG with 3000 miles on it for 10K less. Looking at pros and cons of each.....anybody have an opinion or maybe have owned an older and a post '17 one? Looking at the CVO tomorrow and wondering what to do if it is as perfect as the pics...

Have a ‘16 CVO RGU.
How are you only seeing $10k difference? I would say you could find one for a lot better price than that.

Bit to your question. There are some things you just need to know about the 110” CVOs if your talking about the v-twins.
Like CHANGE the lifters before you take possession. The only other thing that comes to mind right off the bat is the water pumps on the water cooled models. They’ve been known to go out. They have a new pump now that sounds like they have them fixed.

Forgot to mention...I have a '15 CVO Street Glide so I am intimately familiar with the 110...The Road Glide only has 3000 miles on it so I have some time with the lifters..but yeah..I usually do a cam and lifters to them anyway.

As for price..they are looking for 23,500K for the CVO and the new bike is 33,800. I'm guessing the CVO price is based on the really low mileage

I just bought a 2015 CVO RGU with 4,600 miles on it. Some of the things you get on the CVO only matter to some people. You have to look at the added features that a CVO has to decide if it is worth it.

Now I can say this. The new GTS radio is nicer and easier to use but I don't know if it is enough to make that big a difference. Make sure they have all the added options that go with a CVO like the garage door receivers, Gold key, CVO cover.
Also you get steel braided lines and painted inner fairing.

I've only seen one limited so I can't say how it compares. I went from a 2011 to the 2015.

If money was no object...

As a current owner of a 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra who is currently faced with replacing the water pump (being done as I type) and replacing the lifters and inner cam bearings (coming up on 30K and extended warranty just expired), I would be looking exclusively at the 2020 Limited if I were making a purchase decision today. You’ve already got a 110 vintage bike in the stall, why would you want two?

Point well taken....here are my thoughts.....It is a 2nd bike primarily when going 2 UP...it will have an HD extended warranty on it--whichever bike I end up with. I like my 110 and I usually do cam, bearings and lifters anyway (the M8 will stay stock, but the 110 would get the cam)..and both bikes need exhaust and a tune. I will just do the cam over the winter at the same time as the exhaust. I was even toying with the idea of the 117 kit.

The CVO has the doors in the fairing that were eliminated this year which is a point against the '20.

Kind of leaning towards the '16 since it doesn't need bars (the 2020 bars suck), they both need exhaust and a tune, and it just over $10K cheaper. But I keep going back and forth between the two.

Not knowing your budget but if it weren't a real issue I would go with the 2020. While the CVO is nice I really believe you would love the feel of the M8 over the TC. Now I am still a huge TC fan and I plan on building my own custom bike with a TC engine, I feel the M8 is just a better feel for touring. From the looks of the new oil pump that the MoCo has come out with and the new primary vent it looks like the prior M8 issues have been resolved. Like was stated above, since you already have a CVO TC bike I would add something a little different to the stable. I would bet the if you do add the M8 you may end up selling the CVO down the road.

Ya. The GTS radio may be better. But that's not the real upgrade. That 114" is where it's at. All day I'd go for the 2020. If budget isn't an issue. Go with the 2020. I just came off a twin cam to the 114. Love the TC. But the M8 is more fun to ride and twist up. No lack of power. It wheel stands my trike. With only a stage 1 SEPST tune.

the only thing on cvo is water pump-don't have one, just what I have read about-I ride 2011 cvo-got for 7000 behind book at the time-would I do it again?yes for the right price-the rgs has my eye-I like the black out-but then comes all the stuff the cvo or ultra comes with.i could blkout an ultra cheaper than buying the special--good luck

The 2020 114 and traction control would attract me on the new bike. I've had the 15 RGUCVO for a couple years now and I declare I'm REALLY happy with this bike. I've been looking at the 2020 RG Limited, but I declare I can't make myself seriously consider dropping my '15.

When I looked at the 2019 RGU's I wasn't overly impressed with the 114 M8. But when I got on the CVO I really liked the 110 plus all the added extras that it gives you. This is my first CVO so I I'm sure that had something to do with it.

I really like the colors of my CVO and debated about waiting for the 2020's to come out. I've yet to close my lower vents even in hard rain but winter is coming up so as it gets colder I might. If I had gone with a 2020 I would have gotten the Orange in a blacked out option. I don't know that I would have gotten the traction control or not.

But I REALLY like these colors & I now have a 117" engine.

If I go with the '16 I am also considering the 117 kit instead of just the cam and lifters. As long as I am doing exhaust I am part of the way there......I need to justify it to myself somehow.....

'16 CVO TC........will sound like a Harley should but will come with a bunch of work that is needed to keep that 110 (punched out 103) on the road.....and you get the CVO nibbly bits......always a nice touch

A 2020 M8 is not even in the same league - The Front end of the 2020 blows away that '16, CVO or not......the Trq of the M8 is night and day over a 110......but if you are building out the 110 motor.......a diff story of course

Its not a true Apple to Apple......you plan to do a bunch to the CVO to overcome the 110 shortcomings and comparing to a stock 2020......my $$, owned them both and would go 2020 all day and twice on Sunday......that $10K you save between the two sounds like it will be used on the 110 itself but NONE of that will ever come back in resale trade in $$$......but if that is not a concern than it really comes down to your preference on the two - IMHO, the 2020 will ride SOOOOOO much better and a simple Stage 2 CAM on that 114 Motor and you are balls to the walls ahead of that 110

The above are opinions expressed by the knucklehead typing and by no means reflect that of this site........I don't even own a fucking RG anymore so WTF do I know

People have mentioned the 20 handles better than the pre 17 bikes. Did they do something to the suspension starting in 2017?

I like the fairing doors on the '16 and it sucks that they eliminated them on the '20. Also, the '16 already took the depreciation hit.

They both need exhaust so that's a wash. But I would need to remove the tune every time the '20 goes into the shop--hopefully not often, but you never know. My '15 has been in 3 times in 5 years--but the aftermarket tune was never an issue..it would be on the '20.

I get the new motor is nice, but I am not unhappy with the performance of my '15 110--even 2 up fully loaded.

I really appreciate all the opinions......Still thinking...….

I keep coming back to your thread because you are bringing up all the points I was looking at when I was trying to decide if I wanted to buy a NEW new bike or just a new to me bike.
Like the CVO you are looking at the one I bought had low miles on it so it really was a new bike other than the PO hadn't taken very good care of it and kept all the CVO stuff. (Still pissed about that)
I got my 15 CVO for $23K and then spent about $4K on upgrades that I got 15% off plus the same on the labor cost.
So yes I could have gotten a brand new bike for $10K more but as you point out then I would have had to spend $2-3K more to make it more like I want. So far I am happy with my 110 now 117" engine. It doesn't run any hotter than my old 103" did and I think a little cooler to be honest.

As everyone told me, you are the only one who can make this choice. If you like the twin cam engine I say stick with it. As I said before I wasn't overly impressed with the M8 but maybe I had one that wasn't running it's best?

Is the new suspension any better? And does anybody use the fairing doors that they eliminated on the 2020's?
The suspension hasn't changed since MY2017, and yes its way better. Some people wont be happy with it still, but I think its light years better, and certainly the difference between stock and aftermarket is narrower than it was previously, so I'll be spending that cash elsewhere.

As far as the doors are concerned, I'll be installing Klock mesh screens this weekend, I'm thinking that will block some wind and rain, but the older I get, the more I avoid rain anyway.

The doors are not the deciding factor, I am just doing pros and cons between the 2 bikes. The M8 issues are a little concerning as well....at least with the 110 I know what I am getting into and what mods can be done.

Congratulations on the new bike. Make sure to post up some pictures and impressions of the new bike once you get a few miles on it.
