Stage 4 117 M8's and Octane Boosters

I have been experimenting with octane boosters in my 117 Stage 4 as it had a low end bog.
Tried VP and Boostane.
It runs alot better with them and my mileage jumped as well...had been consistently 41 mpg and it jumped to 46 mpg.
Has anyone else tried them?
I can only get 91 pump fuel where I live...and it doesn't seem to be enough with the 11:1 CR.
Was running Esso 91, but runs better with Shell 91.
Anybody else have a low end bog on their 117 off the line once in awhile?
My friend has the exact same problem on his exact same bike.

I bet the tune is more of a problem then the gas. Aftermarket tuner and a quality dyno tune will fix the bog. However, there goes the warranty

2009 Road Glide. 16 in Vindikta Wild Cats. Aquatic AV, Stinger 700X4 to MMats PA 601, Audiopipe horns.
Ground Zero 7X10 in the lids w/ sspn.4 1000d, tuned with DD Audio DSI-2. S&S 106, lifters, push rods and AC. Drago 2. CycleRama 575. Progressive monotones -1in. 12in. HD adjustable rear shocks. Painted inner fairing. Tuned with TTS. Blacked out!

The cam that comes stock in that stage 4 kit lacks bottom end power.. What are you using for a tuner? 91 Octane should be fine for that build with a good tune and the right cam..

He has the SEPST & Pro Auto tune module.

Not the same bikes but I just had a 117" kit installed on my 2015 CVO 110" and am using the same tuners for right now. I had to put baffles in my mufflers to get rid of the low end bog that I had.

What exhaust are you running? Do you have a copy of the dyno sheet?

SE8-515 Cam
All as per the SE Stage 4 kit.....and yes bought the 7 year warranty...so can't use non HD parts, unless i want to void the warranty : (

I have the Rinehart Racing slim line duals 4 1/2"....with their headers.

She goes pretty good once i get away....I can hit the speed limiter in 4th (180kph)....112 mph

I have not had it dynoed.....that's what i need to do i think is get a bit of dyno tuning done.
But not sure what changes they can make with the stock maps.....which i assume are EPA compliant???

Yes the SEPST has to keep your fuel trim within EPA guidelines. But they can make some adjustments to it to try and help with the issues you are having. Don't know anything about the Rinehart slip-ons but the Khrome Werks 4.5" mufflers the HD store sold me for my bike didn't have enough back pressure. So I had a heck of a dip in my torque curve. Adding baffles really helped and I'll know more next week since I'm taking the bike back in to have it run on the dyno again.

Canned tunes are just a starting point and you always want to have it dyno tuned after having work like you did done to a bike. Get it run on a dyno and then post up your chart so we can see what it is doing. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who can help you out.

You say you have a low end bog once in a while. Can you be sure it is not the way you are leaving the line between clutch and accelerator play? Just a thought. Run a 2-1 exhaust system like a D&D and if you are worried about the catalyst cops then opt for an S&S Sidewinder with cat. Everyone I have talked with about M8 engines say that these motors run out and tune better with back pressure.

I appreciate the comments....and will get it on a dyno for some tuning once I do some research and see who does a good job in the area.

I wish it was my poor driving to blame ; ) ....but the HD techs have suffered the same problem every time they test rode it. Also my friend with the identical bike as me also suffers with the exact same issue....and the local HD dealership has dyno tuned his.
Theyíve also tweaked my fuel twice....which has helped, but itís still there.
Iíve had bikes since I was 8 years old so no issues with technique....it just starts to die and you have to let off the throttle and pull in the clutch or it feels like it will stall out. Itís friggin dangerous as itís always in intersections....or when youíre pulling out into traffic.
So would like to get it sorted : )

What slip ons do you have?

I added thunder torque inserts to my V&H and got all my bottom end back.

List everything in your build if you could please, maybe there is a weak link.
