Best RG Paint color/Scheme of all time. . . .

I’m starting to itch for a color/paint change, and my 2 favorites are both from 2012, The yellow and the CVO Skunk, and this years Blue and Black is pretty sweet too.

Thinking bout shooting my tins this winter, but worry that my choice may hurt buyer interest in the future. (No Plans at all right now to change bikes - This 15 clicks all the right buttons for me, and I a extremely happy with the ride/sound/power.) But just getting sick of how hard it is to keep black looking nice.

Post up some pics of your favorite factory colors/schemes, so I can get some Ideas.

Thanks

Skunk is one of my all time favourites. That being said, there’s nothing like factory paint. That’s me though. I personally would never buy a bike that’s been painted. Could be my OCD getting the best of me.
Do what you like , and not worry about resale, if ya think you’re gonna keep it for a while.
I swore I’d never buy another black bike....... that was three black bikes ago! 🤦🏻*♂️

I loved the 09 CVO in the orange paint scheme. I also liked the CVO in the blue and black scheme which was out the same time as the skunk color
thedude and double like this.

09 Mirage Orange Pearl

Skunk is definitely one of my favorites, however, this is the best.

The 2011 FLTRUSE CVO in charcoal slate/grey was magnificent, no expense was spared on that paint. Google it. The same colors were reprised on an Ultra or 2 more recently, but it was noticeably less detailed i.e. cheaper.

That's the standout for me. Sadly these pix do not do it justice....the ghost work on the gas tank bands running either side of the H-D badge - and on the fairing, and elsewhere - is amazing.

I do love many of the recent greens, including the limited edition catalog tins such as Radiation (?) green from a couple of years ago, and of course last year's custom option Kinetic Green which i own, here's a pic.

Yes, love the skunk also!!

Going back in time, i have always loved the 1968 FLH paint jobs, for their sharp angles, symmetry and mix and match of colours/contrasts. Even the tank badge is perfect for this look. Google to see lots more like this....it seemed to be for that year only....

Favourite of all time from H-D would probably be the Sturgis/Low Rider blacks with red or gold bar-and-shield decals, some with gold pinstripes, from around 1980-1982. ALWAYS classic, always classy. My customised 1980 Shovelhead has this kinda look...
post a pic

and below is a bone stock 1980 FXB Sturgis, a masterpiece with its red-pinsriiped rims too.

I think these Shovel-era examples would work great and stand out on a modern Road Glide, so long as you got the fairing and bags right....the 1983 FLT came close, but this sorely lacks some pinstripes to my mind....

Hands down. The skunk wins it.

Have you thought about a wrap?? It's removable come sale time, and you can get just about any color you want.

Another vote for the skunk, but that blacked out Bonneville Salt Pearl is sweet also. Call it a toss up!

The Roadie has - to my eyes - always struggled with lousy paint. There are exactly two that look good to me, and I own one of them.

My Skunk knock-off

This was my 2013 Skunk knock-off. Not factory, but not over the top. I traded it in for my 2015 and the dealer sold it the same day.

My 2015 when it was done wasn’t factory either, but it sold the week I posted it for sale

Custom paint can be a risky proposition if you do something over the top or extremely personal (family airbrushed into tank, sports team, wild colors, etc.) but all three of the bikes I’ve designed and painted sold within days and for more that what similar year and mileage bikes were listed for.

If you’re keeping it though, then don’t worry about when you might sell it someday and what someone else might think of it.
