Screwed by a biker’s trap today

This afternoon I was riding some high mountain roads before the real cold arrives.
I presume some accidents or resident’s complain occurred, because LEOs settled a biker’s trap; I was stopped while at speed limit but they did not care, they simply took a look to my V&H slip-ons and my DMV circulation card was gone.....
The card has been confiscated, got 300€ fine (if paid in 5 days otherwise is 430), plus they gave me a card just to go back home and I will have to take the bike back to stock and then pass a DMV visit to have the circulation card back. (other money to go, at least I have all the parts and map)
I do not complain the LEO to have applied the law to me, I knew it and I took the chance, but I feel like there is something unfair anyhow.....

Its all still moving forward. Phase two was light truck tampering, and that hammer dropped last month. And the money to train the park service to use their sound testing equipment was in the 2017 budget. As I understand it, sound limit signage is already delivered to several national parks, just awaiting the order to put it up.

It's like that all over Europe. Norway is no better. The Governments over there have so much more control over the people. That will happen here too if certain people take control of this country. Enjoy our freedoms while we can!
Ahem... :D
I happened to live in the kingdom of Norway and I am ridin' a free-breathing beast which would never pass a DMV-inspection in the republic of Kalifornia!

Seriously though - @ Beaver, who pulled you over? Municipal cops? I have never had problems with the National Police or Carabinieri in Italy. The local boys are another story altogether. A couple of years ago I got a fine for riding in a area where you need some kinda special permit. Yeah, that's right, only tourists get that "special" treatment... :frown:

That's horrible, just over slip-ons. Pretty steep fine too.
Like others have said they were working toward that here in the US . I'm glad it got side lined somewhat.

We pay our dues up front, we have "freedom", we pay our dues in-the-rear when"they" change their minds. And they have nothing better to do than hassle a brother about wanting to take a ride on their personalized ride. It's not like we have flame throwers or oxycodone flying out the damn tailpipes. For the love of chrome!(or matte and g/black)get off our backs and let us be at peace with the countryside! Have a great day all! I'm gonna tear it up going to Jim Thorpe PA in a few hrs.........

Damn that would suck!! I agree though, in a lot of areas in the US the laws are on the books, just not enforced. Denver passed an ordinance several years back on modified exhaust. You could get a ticket for not having the stock exhaust on your bike. After 1 year on the books, there had been only one person who got a ticket, but his bike was running with open pipes.

I remember back in the 80's in Daytona Fl , when Drag pipes were still popular, some leo's use to stick a rod up your tail pipe checking for baffles if you got pulled over.

This afternoon I was riding Italy’s 666 from Lazio to Abruzzo, the idea was to enjoy some high mountain roads before the real cold arrives.

What is a circulation card? Is it like an inspection sticker that we have in a lot of States?

It is something in between a title and a technical fiche, it states who is the owner and the motorcycle technical characteristics.

The reason for the owner information is mostly for insurance and tax purposes, while the technical part is mostly to allow LEOs to verify the vehicle for unauthorized mods.
Keep going on the road when the card is confiscated is a very serious offense

Here is an example from internet

In Spain you cannot change ANYTHING of the bike, as a sample if you change the windshield, handlebar or add fog lamps you must do it on a authorized shop, make a project by an engineer and legalize all at the ITV stations, a long and very expensive process, thousands of euros, and all the parts must have the ECE homologation, in some cases you must have an additional testing in specialized laboratory, very expensive too.

You cannot make any stage, or add more lights like additional stop or position than the ones that come with the vehicle.

If you drive an “illegal” bike, a cop stop you and immobilizes the vehicle, you must return the vehicle to original status, pay a very expensive fine and you will have less points on your license.

n France the police are very lenient with bikers, never had a problem.
I drove in several European countries (Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Austria, Hungary and this summer I was in Spain) and I have never been worried.
Germany and Switzerland is another story ......

The main problem here is that every two years you must pass an inspection at the ITV station, they make a sound test, emission test, and they match your motorcycle with the homologation data, they measure all (height, handlebar,..) and verify lights, engine, fairing, etc, the entire motorcycle must be exactly the same as the data in the approval form or if you have made any modification it must be approved by the procedure I indicated before and noted on the motorcycle papers.

If your bike have any modification or not pass emissions or sound tests you cannot circulate with it until you return it to its original state.

Before the inspection we disassemble all the parts that we have changed, pass the inspection and then reinstall them.

If I'm not mistaken in France there are no inspections for motorcycles, only for cars

An update on the now never ending story.
Went this morning to DMV to seek for an appointment to make the check on friday, the only spot available in October because it seems they perform this activity only once a month.
The clerk told me that I’m not allowed to re-stock the bike by myself, it has to be done by a HD dealer that have to certify that the activity has been performed.
More money to go for something I can do by my own and no possibility to have the bike back on road before December due to my job....

Shocked you're not in prison by now, just for making remarks about it online!

Here in Australia cops in every state are wide awake to drag pipes/excessively loud pipes. Occasionally they will set up checkpoints to test Harley exhaust decibels. if your bike fails, you have a certain number of days to get it fixed and re-present it for state inspection. Or stay off the road. And the shops authorised to do state inspectiions now must photograph the ''passed'' bikes, to trip the rider who takes it straight home and reinstalls the drag pipes. Beware getting caught doing that.

A lot of this is used against 1%er clubs in particular as part of an ongoing campaign.

Generally (this goes all around the world, this one) if you are solo rider with a respectful attitude when pulled over, that gets you a long way even if you do have some, uh, semi-legal parts fitted.

Sadly there are too many Instant ''Lifestyle'' Assholes who roll out of the dealer with high apes and loud pipes and their sleeve tatts who then proceed to rev the shit out of their new bike on the strip every damn Saturday night, and that turns the public and the law right off.

And me.

Passed the DMV test today. They gave me back the “carta di circolazione” where the issue has been noted.
This means that from now on every cop stopping me will check the mufflers to be stock, if not I’ll be treated as a repeating offender and the ticket will be very salty.....
Trying to contain the blasfemy here......
