Nice project. Lucky that you have the mechanical skills to make this a DIY project because the labor costs for this change at the dealership would be prohibitive.
Well since I have the Yelvington Mechanical Reverse Pulley on my bike I am curious to hear how you like the Baker reverse. I looked at the Baker reverse and had planned on installing it until I found the Yelvington M.R.P. instead.
I haven’t ridden it much since the installation, but it is great. It’s not cheap and it’s labor intensive. I went for it because of Baker’s reputation, it is compact and has no external levers or pulleys. I’m not knocking other systems, I just prefer the Baker.
I’ve installed a number of Baker reverse kits on the newer 6 speed bikes. Yes, it is very labor intensive and there are a lot of small parts but overall they have always worked very well. The worse compliant I’ve ever had is that the lock out solenoid burned out once but I can’t hold that against Baker. It’s an electronic component and we all know how those can be finicky.
