Safety- a great forum section

I have been on the forum for some time now. I enjoy the discussions about rides, events and problem solving. The past few nights i have spent time reading the posts in the Safety section. It has been great to read threads then cause me to stop and remember what it takes to enjoy our great pass time.

Many of the posts are older but they have been a refreshing spring to drink from. Thanks to all who have shared some GREAT advice.

The best safety advise I ever got can be summed up in one sentence: "Ride like you're invisible." 30 years of ride - never been down (yet)- in part because that is always in my head.

I'll take it a step further, "Ride like you're invisible and all the cagers are aiming to hit you; they can't see you so are just taking random swipes hoping to get lucky."

I take it another step yet. Drive like everyone is out to get you, when they look you in the eyes they see right through you, that car in front of you will have a hubcap pop off and bounce at you (where will you go?), that pickup will have a piece of plywood fly out of the bed at you (what will you do?), the road will have a pot hole or drop off or change to gravel when your boxed in with no where to go. If you keep this in mind, then when it happens you know what your going to do. Takes some of the fun out of riding but keeps the paint shiny.

Extra ammo for your extra magazines....lol.....and a good flashlight in your pocket for night riding.

You see, lots of guys have a flashlight in their bags but if an accident occurs at night you need that light in your hand ASAP, not in a smashed bag under the bike or lost along the road.

Ride safe.

Now that is a good point! I work in IT, so always have a small LED penlight in my pocket, and it has been stupid handy for all sorts of situations.

Brother dropped his keys in the dark - in the dirt - coming out of Iron Horse during bike week; nobody move... Click - there they are..

Scarlet Red 2010 Road Glide Custom named Trixie - She's a flashy little minx..
Basic black 1981 Tour Glide Classic named Alice - She's a sleeper project.

Carry a tire plug kit and a electric air pump, DC of course. Walmart sells them. The one I got is about the size of a couple packs of cigarettes.

Never leave home without that! Even on short trips. Getting stuck out here in the middle of the desert with a flat is no joke lol
