Rolling Thunder Ride 2019

Me and a few of my veteran buddies are going and this is our first time riding. One of my biggest questions is what happens at the Pentagon parking lot before the ride when you are lining up. Any recommendations or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The parking lot will be HOT!!!!! You will be packed tightly. Bring water or money for the vendors. Depending on when you arrive, it may take AWHILE to get into the procession. Expect to stay most of the day with all the activities. Remember to HAVE FUN!!

As said you will be waiting around for a while.

Vendors shut down just after the first bikes roll out. So if you want something to eat or drink from them schedule accordingly.

You can easily walk over to the Pentagon memorial for the 9/11 victims.

Lots of bikes to see and have envy over what others have done to their bikes. Also meet other folks and just enjoy.

I have the advantage of working at Pentagon so I can get into the building and bring some friends if I want.

See you all there and enjoy the memories.

Yeah what they said.... I'll add get there early as the parade start around noon and its First in First out... The last time I went I got to the Pentagon Parking lot at 8am and was in the parade by 1pm... I left DC at 4pm and the parade was still rolling. I think this year is the last one so Its gonna be BIG.

How far of a walk would it be from the parking lot to the 911 Memorial? One of my buddies has back problems that limit how far he can walk.

Depending on how early you get the, this determines which parking lot you'll be in. The North parking lot is probably a half mile from the memorial because of the way you have to get there in a round about way. If you get there late you'll be in the south lot and its on a couple hundred yards away but you wont leave the parking lot until 3-4PM for the parade. The north lot is the first to leave but the furthest from the memorial. I've done this ride for the past 13 years, it is not for everyone but I love it and always have a good time. Just remember what you there for and have fun.

I have done the ride several times. I lived in NoVA for 16 years before moving to Alabama. The last time I rode up from here I arrived at the North Pentagon Parking Lot at 0630. They have specific guidelines about parking.......... just go where they tell you. We were in the 25th row that early in the morning. When it was all said and done there were 1.2 million scoots there.

It is hot so bring some water if you can, but the do have some there at the vendor stalls. Take something to mark your ride...........aka a yellow or orange rag that you can tape to a windscreen or mirror so that you can find your ride easily. Nothing worse than trying to find your black RG in a sea of black bikes.

If can find one, pick up a cheap folding camp chair and umbrella. Use it while you are there and then once you take off and go past the POW Cage, you can just dump it off on the side of the with the rest of them. Yea it might cost you a couple of bucks, but if you are going to spend several hours in the sun it is well worth it.

The ride through DC is good. The only issue is that a lot of riders take their helmets off to ride the route and then have to stop before they cross the bridge into VA to put them on............. can get sort of backed up.

It is a good ride and good event.............. and the last one.

I went back in 2015.
I'm Canadian and at the time i was working in Delaware.
I had the opportunity to go and see this.
It's really quite the event and well worth the trip.
I didnt make any reservations or anything like that.
I was able to get a room right across from the Pentagon.
Heres a few pics to give you an idea of what you are getting into.

Do you have to be a member of the organization to ride? I lived in VA for a while and got to see the parade. I also noticed there were many large groups riding in on I66. Are there staging areas to ride into DC or is it all on oneself to get there? I assume some roads are blocked.
