Road hazard damage using Geico question?

So yesterday my 5 week old bike got slammed with what looked like a steel/hard aluminum plate. I was heading south on hwy 169 and got over in the fast lane (2 lane road) because a merging car was coming over and as it did it basically cut off another car. The innocent car merged to the left lane in front of me but as he did he crossed the far left yellow line running over this object. The object become air born and all I could do was duck. The plate slammed into my front fender, hit the upper fork cover, bounced off the front fairing, to the shield and over my head.

Needless to say there are several gashes in all items. So I called Geico today. Because my policy is new with them they are sending out an adjuster to "insure the damage is new". I don't understand that because they never inspected the bike when I started the policy. Second thing they said is the adjuster will give me a quote and I will take that to Harley and they will have to fix it based on the amount they provide.

Has anyone ever dealt with a situation like this, road hazard issues/claim?

Updated with photos and adjuster outcome:

This is the damage to the front fender. He said dealing with Myers Harley they do not send out to body shop, they only want to replace and Geico won't authorize that. If I took what they call "appearance allowance" they would wave my deductible. I choose to go that route because I can get it refinished locally for the same price my deductible is.

Total est is $1526.94 as of right now. My main concern is the front fork cover and what possible damage is behind it. Will make an appointment at Myers HD tomorrow.

Second update:

Just had inspection done at Myers-Duren. They laughed at Geico est. Additional $2879.11 added on top of $1526.94 that Geico adjuster estimated. Now I wait for them to fight it out.

Check your state laws on what the insurance company can do. In New Jersey ( for example ) the insurance company cannot tell you where to go for repairs. It's your choice.
They may not agree with the cost, but in the end it should be your choice on where to have repairs done.
Don't forget, there can always been "hidden" damage.
That quote doesn't mean nothing.

Agree with above. In CT you can't be told where to go fix it. If you don't agree with the amount the insurance company is offering you, get the work appraised at a dealership for new, and how much to fix existing. Hopefully its smooth with you. We have them for our cars and they were excellent to deal with when my wife got hit. I know thats not always the case, I have heard some bad stories about them. Hopefully yours is quick and painless like my experience. Keep us updated.

My actions in the past were, take to dealer get est (inquire rental), tell ins co, let dealer work with ins (be on fist bumping terms), parts, paintwait, etc. Ajuster knows what? He needs an education, at least the dealer will work for you. Best of luck , The check should be in your from the dealer, minus/plus any agreements

Just be sure you do not agree to any settlement until AFTER ALL DAMAGE IS FIXED! In Missouri, it is the law, but as some have indicated, laws differ from state to state. Best bet is to study what your state laws say.

In theory, Theory and Reality are the same. In reality, they are different.

So Im guessing ur referring to Myers Duran HD in Tulsa? If so, I have seen that Gieco car their once a week writing checks for claims. That is bullshit he gives an allowance? Its an insurance policy and you can chose in Oklahoma who and were you want it fixed. They cant decide what you get!

No No No, they aren't telling me to go to Myers. That's who I want to go to. The adjuster suggested me to go to route 66 because they do use a body guy who would repair it but for my deductible being waived, a local guy less than 2 blocks from me could to it for less so it's actually a benefit for me.

He told me I could go any where. I just bought the bike at Myers (Yes in Tulsa) and enjoyed the customer service.

My only hope now is maybe instead of replacing the fork covers with the aluminum ones, they could put black ones on.
