Insurance rant....

My new bride & I moved from an apartment into a home we purchased a month ago.
Yesterday I made a payment on the Progressive bike insurance. After licking the envelope, I noticed they were still showing the old address.
I promptly called & informed them of the new address.

POOF....My rate goes up $289....from$446 to $735.

So, I do some shopping & find GEICO $3 less than my apartment rate, with IDENTICAL deductibles andlimits.

But, being a loyal customer I call, to see what they (Progressive) could do.

They review my policy, ask some questions....put me on hold.

...a few minutes later, the rep gets back on the phone with the newly adjusted policy premium...

....and the price goes to OVER $1000...

I'm going with the GEICO, I think.

That's all. Carry on...

Allstate can't come close to the GEICO rate.

Similar story here. They're pushing the "all-in" policies in their ads, and they've got my bike, so my cage policy was up for renewal and I thought I'd give them a shot at the whole enchilada. Bike, 2 vehicles, travel trailer. First off, the trailer has to have a separate policy. What about the ads? Whatever..."that's how we do it". Okay...drum roll while they tally the number...45% more than what I pay now, without the trailer!

Needless to say, I won't be switching anything but my bike policy when it expires. Had a similar experience with GEICO a few years ago. I guess when you're ad budget is in the billions of $, you gotta pay for it somehow.

Yes, the insurance racket is great if you're on the inside. They love to take the money and find anyway to squeeze you to get more. It's always the paying out that's hard for them and the slightest opportunity to dig into your pockets, even if you're a long-time customer, will bring them out of the woodwork. Sad to say, but moving one block over and changing a zip code will screw you like this. Seen it before and you're doing the right thing to flip em the bird and switch.
