Thundermax map to help fuel economy??

Went and put a new map in #345 that was recommended by Thundermax and my mileage is absolutely miserable. I am only getting about 150 miles to a tank. My bike is as follows.

2009 Screamin Eagle Road Glide with 110 cubic inch motor
Vance & Hines Power Dual head pipe
Vance & Hines Hi Output mufflers
Stock High Flow Screamin Eagle Air Cleaner
Stock Cams

This tuner is way above my head, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

1BadGlide

Thundermax is the best resource for issues. Contact them, they are pretty good problem solvers. Here's a link: http://www.thunder-max.com/Support/T...axSupport.aspx

Having said that, have you run an autotune since the new map? Do you have the latest firmware? Have you looked at the Air to Fuel Ratio versus Throttle Position Sensor settings, shown as AFR/TPS? Typically TMax has things set rich, you may be able to lean it out some by moving the fuel curve to a leaner setting in the normal rev zone where you cruise the most. By leaner I mean from a setting in the low 13s to 13.8 or 9 or low 14s/1 setting.

If all else fails and you were getting good performance and mileage on the old map, maybe reloading it would be a solution, the new map was just to make it easy to start according to the map description.

Yes T-Max set the tuners a little rich, this is because the fuel setting HD uses of a 14.7 AFR is considered lean which will create more engine heat. The T-Max tuner AFR is set around 13.5 which is a richer AFR but the engine will run a bit cooler.
I get around 35+/- mpg on my bike which is a 103 and I find this to be OK with me.
Do a few riding sessions and a few auto tunes and see what you end up with and if you still want to get better mpg than there are adjustments that can be made.
Remember a base map is just a platform to start with and some adjustments may have to be done for everything to be just right.

On my '13 RGC 103 I consistently get 37-41 mpg. Runs great & I ain't changing a thing on my T-Max.

question for you guys.

If I read it correctly he has a stock air cleaner with high flow exhaust mufflers. Would the preloaded maps take this into account or are they all designed with upgraded airflow in mind?

Most all of T-Max base maps are for Hi-Flow air filters.
There are no 110 inch base maps for a stock air filter and the only base maps for a 103 with stock air cleaners is the trike. I would suggest putting a stage 1 air filter kit on the bike and see if the mpgs get better.
If not try a different base map and see if that makes a difference, the map I would try would be 335, this map is for a stock 103 with stock air filter and stock head pipes with cats. If the bike doesn't run right you can always go back to the map you are running now.

I believe from what the dealer has told me that the 09' SERG's cam with the high flow air filter on it already. I wish I knew a way of confirming this. I am almost 100% positive that it is running a K & N filter on it. When I said stock I should have clarified this point.

Thanks,

Not your fault I was thinking stock like the one I have when I read the description. If I paid better attention to your posting I would have read and comprehended the SERG. But Ironmark did help me understand the Thundermax better.

You Tube is your friend when you own a TMax. All kinds of videos showing you how to do everything.

I found one showing to change your AFR for better gas mileage by raising the target AFR in the cruising ranges. It worked for me. I am currently running about 13.8 cruising.

On my recent 2 up 1800 mile trip my bike got over 40 mpg on every fill up with a personal all time best of 45.6 mpg on one tank!
