What can you expect from a new map?
I started getting decel pops about a week ago. Didn't seem to matter if it was hot or cold out, but did seem to happen more after the bike was warm.
Stopped by my shop and asked him about a map and he said it shouldn't be needed, but we could tweak the settings and see if that makes a difference.
Well, my desire to DIY got the better of me, I found the app, got the closest map to my setup, found a usb cable, plugged it all in, did the download, and it said successful. I even checked some of the numbers and they seem to have been tweaked at least a bit.
Took the bike out for a test ride and while it may be premature, I smell success. My question though, is I also have an issue where when it's real hot and I'm in traffic, eventually I'll not only lose power, but I also get this what sounds like metal on metal sound. This seems to happen whether I have the rear cylinder shut off enabled or not. It is an exceptionally rare happening, but if I'm doing any permanent damage, I want it fixed.
Could this possibly be something that I've corrected with a new map, or is it more likely to be a more serious issue beyond my own knowledge?
more info: last year it happened about 500 miles after the dealer did the 5k service, and when I checked the oil it looked like they probably didn't do the o/c. <I'm no expert and not accusing, but after doing my own oil change and waiting the same amount, the oil was still clear and didn't have the issue again until this year>
This year it happened right round the 2k mark after doing my own oil change. Could my oil be breaking down too quick?
I did notice both times that my oil pressure was near 0, but hot and at idle, that's not uncommon for my bike and revving or speeding up brings pressure up.
If it is simply heat, I have a wards fan on order and should arrive any day, but (thankfully) we have some warm and semi dry weather coming that I will want to ride and may not have the fan installed when we hit 90 degrees.
sorry for the rant, I know testing will tell me what I want to know, but if there's something else I can do before Saturday when we hit 90 I will. Thanks to all on this site, I appreciate you more than you know. I've done things on my bike saving money and making it 'mine' more than if I didn't have you guys to help me with my self confidence....thank you, thank you.
