I had a bitch of a time getting them to the right spot for me. Mine's the Ultra with the lowers, so its a little different. Maybe you could look at one in the shop to get an approximate location for what I'm about to say.
I had to use the line across the radiators as a reference point. If you look at those grills, you can see which row of holes are blocked and which are open. I put the top of my clamp even with that line. Then I started adjusting the angle towards the floorboards. Looking at the front of the bike, they almost look like they are angled way to much, almost parallel. Looking from the seat, they appear about 45 degrees to the floorboards. Once I had that, it was a matter of adjusting the pegs around their rotation. Where I have them now, I can keep my heels on the floorboards with my toes on the pegs. If I want a little more room, I can hook my heels between the front of the floorboard and the peg. If I need still more room, the arch of my foot is on the peg. Maximum leg room is with the heels on the very top of the pegs, with everything blowing in the breeze.
I had tried on notch lower and I could really stretch my legs out, but couldn't rest my toes. For me, this is a good compromise.
