Diehard

I have a 2018 Road Glide after owning a 2011 RG. I am contemplating buying a 2019 but retaining my sheet metal of Wicked Red Gloss paint which I love. My main reason is the Boom Box upgrade and the extra 7 cubic inches. The new radio is my biggest push to move up because I like the fact that there are no external buttons on the newer infotainment screen which seems to me would be more water proof and less chance of signs of wear on the buttons like you see on vehicle buttons that are used daily. I would appreciate any input from owners of both radios.

7 cubic inches with a stock tune is irrelevant.

The new infotainment system is about $2400 with the kit needed to fit it into your scooter. A place called Soundz is selling the kits. I think trading will hurt a lot more than $2400.

As for keeping the paint set, I don't see how you can swing that, unless you purchase the 19, swap it all out, and then sell the 18 outright, after the fact.

I agree, and would only add that HD's infotainment system should not be a reason to trade because it's viewed by most to be very sub par for what it costs. Take a look at what "Soundz" has to offer, especially in the area of their speaker offering. I'd suggest keeping the '18 (especially since you love the paint) and talk to others on here about HD's Boom system which constantly under performs expectations, and then go get yourself a good aftermarket system from "Soundz" or someone else. Just one guy's opinion.

Welcome from SW Florida.

Hello and welcome from the Twin Cities. Don’t know much about the newer bike info systems. I’m still on my 2011 and plan on keeping it for a while.

Check out John Maxwell's latest video on Soundz. I'd keep the bike. Most people want to get rid of the HD HU and go w/ something else.

Welcome to the tank. I am also a fan of Soundz Customz. Got their systems in both my bikes. But there are lots of good aftermarket choices. Good luck.

I couldn’t agree more. I test rode all of the 2019 touring bikes during Daytona Bike Week and honestly my butt couldn’t feel any appreciable difference between the 114 and my 107 18 RGS. Now if I were buying new and I had a choice between the two would I buy the 114? Of course, unless there was an appreciable price difference; that’s because for the money I would want the latest and greatest, but it sure wouldn’t be because of any significant performance differences between the two. As for the stereo, sound wise they are exactly the same; so, what you have to ask yourself is the 8-10k hit that you would likely take in trade worth it to get a little faster boot-up, Apple Car Play, and no buttons? Only you can answer that question, but I will tell you for a fraction of that money you could install a new head unit, amp, and speakers that would put any stock 2019 system to absolute shame in both sound quality and function, JMHO.

I was a little disheartened with my 2018 after purchasing it last year and posted up some of my frustrations here on the forum, but I have since decided to hold on to it for a couple more years before making a switch to see if HD comes out with a new generation of touring chassis that addresses some of their short comings (like suspension travel, sumping issues, oil transfer issues, a decent stereo head unit…). If they don’t make some significant improvements in the next generation, they will almost certainly lose this 30-year loyal customer and enthusiast to another brand.
