Skock quandry

I want a different rear suspension, dont like the stockers for common reasons. We are around 370 pounds when 2 up plus our (her) stuff. I like the way the bike sets stock 2010 FLTRX but wish it were lower with my stretched bags and fender but not sure about air ride yet.
I have progressive monotube in the front. If no air ride then I want the bike to set no higher than stock but I need a better ride for her as she has a back issue. The shock rebound compression and such boggle my mind for some reason. So, Progressive 440, 940 or any opinions out there.
If anyone is using an air ride set up I would love to hear your experiences with it on a touring bike. Its the classic battle of form and function.

Thanks

PRogressive will tell you to go with the 940s if you ride 2 up a lot and have a lowered rear already(FLTRX and FLHX). they are a full length (13") shock with a half inch compensator spring or something that take the weight of the bike. So really its like a lowered shock, with the full droop of a 13".

From what i read Ohlins are the best. But one of the guys I ride with just put Progressive 940 on his Street Glide and it greatly improved the handling and ride of the bike over stock. So much so that Im thinking about changing to them on my bike even though I only have 2500 miles on it.

The owner of my Dealer swears by the HD Premium Touring Shocks, he gets a new ride every year and has been using them since last year . At $429 on E Bay or Chicago HD they are a good price

for the money go to motorcyclemetals , talk to Howard , order the #2-#2A Ohlins Shocks , they are 12" with a 83mm stroke custom built for you , tell him you are a hdforums.com member and he will discount them for you , around $540 with the discount

I recently replaced my stock 12" shocks with WORKS Performance 13" shocks as my stock setup bottomed out with a passenger. Am quite happy with them and they are built to your specs, (weight of yourself, your passenger, weight of gear, riding style) maybe something to look into and I rec'd a 10% discount for being a forum member.

for what it's worth...

Just put a set of Progressive 440s on my '10 FLTRX....they are 12.5inchers, so only slighty longer with the standard springs. I set the sag as best as I could by myself, may need to dial it in a little better with a helper.
Initial rides are good...I may be a tad stiff on the preload. But it soaks up on the potholes on my street much better than with the airshocks. Use to get quite a jolt....now not so much. Still need to trry 2up and more than just around the block. But I'd say an improvement outta the box!
