2010 swingarm, and 200mm wheel on a 2007 glide

So I have been running the F.B.I. wide rear fender on the Glide for a couple of seasons now. Last winter I decided to go ahead with the fat tire, but just couldn't bring myself to spend the extra for the 200mm kit. So I bought the 180mm spacer kit, and the hubs from F.B.I.. Bought a 21" front, and an 18" rear wheel blank from All American, and machined a set of wheels. Fast forward to this winter, and I have found that there are more 17" x 200mm tire choices than 18" x 180mm. Reading the forum, I have seen that the 09 and later swingarm is wide enough for the 200mm tire. Today I bought a 2010 swingarm on Ebay. My question is, has anyone installed the 09 and later swingarm into the 08 and earlier frame, if so what were your issues? I realize that I have to change axle, spacers, and wheel bearings. Will I be able to drop the 2010 swingarm right into the frame using the same pivot pin and bushings, or will I have modifications to make to that area as well?

Roger

Having a 2012 now after moving up from a 2006, I do see several changes in the frame but I am NOT sure how much was changed around the Pivot area when the frame was re-designed, but my gut says you'll need to do some modifying..........Good luck & I wish you success............will be watching to see your progress & results.........

I wish you were down close to me as this is something I have wanted to do for a long time...
I think the first thing to do is get the pivot portion of the swing are set up first
You will have to use all the 07 swing arm bushings and spacers but use the new 2014 swing arm bearings. get yourself a set of the aurora bearings that have recently surfaced for half the price of what HD wants for there same bearings...

Do a mock up of the 07 swing arm and then do a mock up of the new swing arm and take all the measurements you can...thinking out load it would seem that the trannys width have not changed so the distance between the swing arm would not change...the only thing that might have changed would be the OVAL width of the frame...you might even be able to use the 09 and newer donuts rather then the older ones....If you can comparing the portion of the frame which houses the donut on a 09 to your earlier model they may be the same where the donuts will slip right in...FFT
Sorry I don't recall what most of these parts are called but I hope you get the idea...
Just dawned on me compare the numbers of the swing arm shafts and see if they changed numbers...If so then get one and compare to what you have...
measure the difference and divide by 2 and that will give you an idea of what the difference of each side is...
Your going to have a great project...
Take a lot of pictures and notes and post the process are you progress...
Lots of knowledge on here that can help with the right direction to pursue or some ideas and thoughts you may not have thought of or upcoming concerns that you will have to deal with...

Another thing you might have to deal with is the shock attachment points...upper points specifically
With the wider swing arm the shocks are going to be wider then the fender struts...

I pulled out my 09 parts manual and the shaft has a number 47505-02 which tells me that the OVAL dimensions will be the same for either swing arm used...

Paul,
Thanks for all of the info, I'll post updates once I get started. By the way, which part of Texas are you from?

Warbirds,
Yes I like it here in Texas most of the time as well...when Texas reaches those triple digits 30 days straight I wish I was else where's....but when it's fridges cold up north and I'm still riding down here I'm glad then I'm here and not else where...

After taking a peek on my manual and seeing that the shaft was the same I feel like you can use all the parts from all the parts from your old swing arm, in my 09 with an exception of the rubber mounts 47584-09 2 ea. and the Nut pivot 47606-09 2 ea....that is all that has changes in the stack up...
The other part that changed on my bike that is different from yours is the Bracket rear fork left side only 50588-09 where you have two, one for each side I have only one while the right side is molded into the frame...

So You asked or mentioned in the first post about the axel swing arm bearings and such...you are safe they are all the same
The new nut on the 09 would be a wise choice since it is longer ...go take a look at it and you will see...The rubber bushings in my option are better then what was in there earlier so you may want to consider those being replaced...May help with the dreaded bagger wobble...

If you want a snap shot of the 09 parts illustration along with the parts numbers then PM me with a number to send them by text...
