Progressive 944 Shocks

I went to my local pusher to check on the price of Progressive 940 and 440 shocks. In their catalog there was a 944 and a 444 shock also listed. I can't find any information about these on the Progressive site. There's a new technology in these that "•Automatically adjust damping for superior ride quality by allowing the shocks to sense the frequency of a bump". Anyone heard of this or have any information on this?

I'm leaning towards the Progressive shocks to replace the air shocks on my RGC; either these new 944's, 940's, 444's or 440's and thought I would get some opinions on these. Who likes the 440 over the 940 or vice versa and why? Kind of hesitant on new technology before it's been out in the wild for a while but Progressive seems to be a decent company so the XX4's may be worth trying.

The 944 is an updated version of the 940, there were a lot of complaints about the springs on the 940, the 944 is supposed to address the problem and be better.

Its my understanding that the 944 is a different valving technology than the IAS system used in the 440 and 940. Its something that Progressive has developed and patented they are calling it FST technology and is supposed to be more load sensing to adjust the damping.

All three shocks the 440HD,940 and 944 come with the same spring rate on them 115-150 lbs. so if you are a lighter rider you may need to have the springs changed just like a lot of us have done on our 940s.

The 944 is not yet listed on the Progressive site and is supposed to be available in March.

I like my 940 over the 440 because the 940 are a 13" shock that still lowers the bike to the same height as a 12" shock. To get the same height in a 440 I would have had to use a 12" shock the same as I took off the bike and would not have as much available travel as I have with the 940 (3+" vs a little over 2")

This is what support said when I chatted with support online yesterday:

Chat transcription :-

Progressive Suspension : Hi, how can I help you?
152.130.6.192 : I just ordered a set of 940 touring for my 2010 road glide, I see on another site you have 944's which I don't see listed on your site. What is the difference?
Progressive Suspension : The 944 are not available the shock will not be on the market for a few months. The 944 have an aluminum body and diffrent valve.
152.130.6.192 : Looks like they are showing it as in stock: https://www.denniskirk.com/progressi...ks.p584545.prd
152.130.6.192 : But ok. Thanks.
Progressive Suspension : It will be a new shock for this year but still will be a few months out they are taking pre orders.
152.130.6.192 : ok.. Thanks.
Progressive Suspension : You are welcome.

Thanks guys this helps a lot. I'm leaning towards the 940 to keep the same geometry of the bike and get more travel and the 944 sounds like better tech so looks like I will wait a month or two. My local guy can get a little better deal than what's on denniskirk.com by a few dollars, at least his estimated price was slightly better.

The air shocks feel good at around 40psi but seem to be leaking down over time so they have to go. I'll post back once I get a set of these and give some feedback on how they feel on comfort and handling.

When the 944 come available check with US Motoman for pricing they sell Progressive 940 for $459.00 ($140.00 discount from list) and Monotubes for $ 239.00 ($100.00 discount from list) and one of the Forum Sponsors "Direct Harley parts" already has the 944 listed for $479.00. So it should be easy to get them for under $ 500.00 to your door.

Thanks Xaran, that's a lot cheaper than I can get them here. BTW, where are you at in the High Desert? One of my favorite places on the planet from Antelope Valley to Apple Valley and beyond.

I went with the 440 shocks and they ride great IMO, I didn't want to lower my bike because I scrape the floorboards enough as it is.

Nice! I lived in Ventura for a little while and did some riding out your way. One of my favorites was out to Castaic, up Lake Hughes Road, out through Antelope Valley, through Frazier Park and back to Ventura through Los Padres on the 33. Hope to get back there one day.
