HHI Trees and lowering

I am about to install a 23" wheel and HHI trees on my 2005 RG. I plan on lowering the front 1 - 1 1/2", but was thinking I might save the trouble and not install the fork extensions that are included with the kit. Wouldn't the bike be lower without the extensions?

Anyone see something wrong with lowering it this way?

I haven't started taking things apart yet, so I don't know much about how different HHI trees are from stock.
