Ohlins 3-1

Well finally I got some Ohlins for the rear. I got what I hope is a great deal and I seriously hope they work,on my bike. I have a 2012 CVO, so if anyone has experience with the Ohlins I sure would like to hear what you have to say. Here are some pics and specs.
I am about 180 with gear and have a razor tour pack with just light items in it most of the time.

The shock itself, I read that the lengh is 12" so it should work for my bike. Is there anything missing on the hardware side that I should try to get before these arrive?

I just came to see what has been said. I was going to go with Ohlins before I bought the JRI. Over on HD forums I've seen nothing but good things said about the Ohlins, I went with JRI because of other reasons, but from my understanding the shock I have is no longer made.

There should be some sleeves for the stock bolts, unless things have changed since I bought mine. You may have to pick up some washers/shims. You want the shocks, once mounted, 90 degrees to the ground. You will also need away to measure your sag, this will take two people to do.

i've got no experience, but i was looking to see what you were gonna say.

i'm glad to see that you're able to do some modding instead of fixing

I understand the concept of reality, but find it too confining for a way of life.

I am under the impression that you picked these up from somewhere other than Ohlins and they weren't built for you. If that is the case Call Matt Sage (864) 979-9547 with Ohlins. Tell him what you have and all your specs. He will be able to let you know if the spings on those shocks will work for you. I have had great customer service with him and I believe he should be able to get you hooked up.

He purchased these shocks used. They were not built for him and since I have not had the chance to answer SmokeyJoe e-Mail yet as it is 9am on Sunday the 4th. I am sorry but I have personal things to do that I can not do during the rest of the year as I work all days until it gets slow around next Christmas.

Here is real history: I developed a line of Penske shocks for Harley's in 2005 as there was no good shocks for HD's & I needed some. I helped develop & made them. Ohlins had some shocks back than but only sold 2 pair (so I was told by OhlinsUSA) per year through Parts Unlimited through Drag Specialties. When Roger sold Penske, I left as did 1/2 the staff.

I was asked by Ohlins to assist in marketing their HD products which I did. I took schooling in Hendersonville NC to become a certified Ohlins factory trained technician & authorized service center. I just read SmokeyJoe e-Mail but did my routine of reading the forums I sponsor first.

Matt Sage is a very good and dedicated Ohlins employee in sales and I have met him many times. I am the person who took the original shocks that was sold new. What I do is much more involved than just putting on a new spring. Once I received what invoice/customer # the shocks were sold to I can than answer SmokeyJoe questions. As soon as I get done I will e-Mail him back. I do not just change springs but take every shock apart and build it for that customer. Without knowing what is in the shock and how it was made than no one but the person who made/modified it would know except for taking apart the shock and examining the shock parts. Re-valving costs $350 at Ohlins and every other place else in the USA that I know about.

If you would read your history it was me who took every shock and test road them before any Ohlins shock I ever sold. Ohlins was not a known Harley back than as it was me who did that work. I am also the person who specified out the #3-1 that SmokeyJoe ended up with. Call Mike Hensley (864) 979-9547 with Ohlins as he is the one I did it with and is the only one who would know.

As far as I know I am the only one who customized HD Ohlins shocks and have been doing it for several years. It is much more than putting in a new spring.
