why do we need fork oil

ok i have replaced my fork seals three times and i still have a leak so what gives? do i even need fork oil? what is it for?

Going straight you can live without fork oil, but going around a nice fast corner you will at some point get this really cool bouncing affect and maybe crash.

Fork oil is part of the rebound control function. I dampens the energy from the springs, you need fork oil so you don't go bouncing down the road pogo stick.

Sounds like you are putting the upper seal in upside down, done that one myself, or not seating the seal properly or getting a nic in it.

The forks are springs and shock absorbers all in one. You know what the springs do, here's a decent explanation of what the shock portion does:

have you tried the lifetime seals? had good luck with em on my 02.plus they go in very easy.

Thanks guys for your input lots of good info I fixed the problem I replaced the upper tube and put in a new seal and now its all good for less than 100 bucks so im happy with that now time to pack for Sturgis!!!
