2017 shock adjustment

Looking at the rear shock set up on my 2017 special i noticed that only the left shock adjusts. There is nothing connected from left to right shock. Furthermore, the right shock is upside down and has at least a 1/2 inch more travel than the left. I would think that both sides of the swing arm would need to be identical for rigidity.

this is becoming common in the motorcycle industry. One shock is set to a specific preload and spring rate, and the other shock has the adjustment for preload. They work as a unit because the swingarm is designed not to flex.. Some bikes have just one shock on one side of the swingarm. Some bikes have a single sided swingarm.

In Harley‘s case it is part simplicity and part budgetary. Most people wouldn't want to adjust preload on both shocks. They could have made rebound adjustment on the other.

They do the same with front forks where one side handles damping and one side handles preload.
