stator friendly

and expandable

any thoughts? I HAVE to get some power to my polks, stat

background: I have 2010 FLTRX, only two speakers, stock head unit, polk audio 6.5 marine slimline 4 ohm speakers.

exploring PBR300X4 & PBR300X1

rufusBarkley, good to hear from ya, hoping summer is going well.

well, this amp question / answer for road glide is a perpetual thing it seems.

the simplist way would be the bazooka or hawg wired plug and play.

three connections, done.

both around $300-$400, even more for the hawg wired for expandable kit.

have been talking with neano a bit here, kind of remembering those conversations, short answer, the yaffe setup without the $2k price tag.

neano, you mentioned the rockford / fosgate amps.

being sceptical, I looked them up.

sure enough, problem solved, their BOOSTED RAIL amp, punch series, either mono or 4 channel are well under $200/each. well under. only 1.5" tall x 4"x7", could mount one on each side of inner fairing with velcro.

this would put you in 6 speaker, PEQ dial bass booster, land, with fader control USED as final bass output control, the PEQ dial being a road noise shaper for low end.

sound pretty good, however, I personally only have the two speakers up front. will have to call RF about 2 channel operation on output side.

Would work perfect for a four and especially a 6 speaker bike, with two in the lids

I'm going w/ the new Fosgate BR amp. Very small, 2 or 4 speaker and Polk 6.5s. i have seen the RF amp as low as $160 on the interwebs. On RF's website they have all the info on the amp, I like that I can expand to 4 speakers if I add the bag top 6x9s.

after much research, I've decided to try the PBR300x4

contacted a guy on h-d forums who has and makes a mounting bracket for that amp. If not I'll experiment

a. price
b. technology, weight, size

although it's a 4 channel out, and not bridgeable due to the nature of the switching algorithm I'd assume, I'm strongly considering adding vented lower fairings with speaker pods to add the other two channels. that's spending $500-700 to accommodate a $200 upgrade.

so, for the money, maybe just try it running stereo at first, already have the power leads, fuse and connectors, might end up running the 10 gauge power lead over the tank under the console inside a plastic sheath. didn't have much luck fishing the cable channel thru the tank. having a fixed fairing makes cabling much easier.

the speakers for the rockford fosgate PBRx4 have to be 4ohm.

I already have polk audio marine db651s slimlines installed. they were a PITA imho. the adapter installation. but there are several 4 ohm options, more than any other. there might be an easier and therefore better kit on the market.

starting from scratch, either polk audio db521's for easiest type installation or maybe something else with mega magnets.

for me, since I'm already down the path, the db651's sound great.

recap:
PBR300x4 - $160 shipped
polk audio speakers - about $55/pair
adaptor rings - $40/pair
wiring kit - $20
assorted connectors/mocap/3m tape - $10

note: PBR300 has voltage sensor turn on using speaker or hi level inputs and DOESN'T REQUIRE remote power to be connected.
I am going to ISOLATE the unused speaker outputs by wrapping them in the 3M vinyl tape they sell at home depot.

I've been wanting more speaker, but not really excited about the $$. Plus, I haven't done car stereo stuff in years! Things have changed a bit! Looking forward to seeing your final product!
