I used a Sony marine unit with LCD display and it is always visable, even in direct sunlight. The angle the radio is mounted on a RG will make LED radio displays much harder to see.

+1 I was always able to see the display on my Sony Marine unit.

Had both and had difficulty with both types. I have to use my hand to shield it in bright sunlight to actually read what it says. I avhe been thinking of using some of teh protection film designed for iPhones to see if that will help. I read somewhere that it helps.

Im running a Kenwood KDC-997 and can see it well unless the sun is directly behind me. I haven't played with the settings yet as work and Christmas has kept me buisy. But so far this head unit is AWSOME!!!

I absolutely love my Alpine CDE-HD149BT with three-line Full Rich LCD display. You can read everything clear on the display in summer sun, plus it has all the latest bells and whistles. It the latest in the Alpine line and was just released back in August. You have your choice of 4 different lighting colors, the Amber/Red matches my CVO gauges and tank lights perfectly. Save your pennies though, it's not cheap at $320.

My Alpine mentioned above has the rear facing USB. I have routed my plug neatly to my right side glovebox where I have a 64gb flash drive that will hold 8,000 mp3 songs. I also have a "Lightening" adapter so I can charge my iPhone 5. YES, get a LCD screen or you won't be able to read your screen in the sunlight.

No cover. Not yet. I'll probably rig one up just in case. Rode 2 hours straight in a driving rain storm last Summer, didn't hurt it but I stayed moving so it wasn't like dumping a pitcher of water right into it. Yeah, Biketronics or similar unit will give you use of your stock hand controls.
