Got my PN4.520D...Now a couple questions.

Hey all,

I hate to do this, but yes, I'm going to ask a few noob questions...

Just got a Soundstream PN4.520D amp and I'm getting prepped to install but I've got a few questions first - specifically for those running the SS.

1. What size fuse is everyone using between the amp & battery? Also, what is the best gauge wire to use for the power & ground. I believe the SS calls for 8GA or larger if running a long distance, but doesn't specify any further. Also makes no mention of fuse size.

2. Secondly, I plan to run high level from the stock Radio Sound head unit (2004 RG) and I see the SS amp has inputs for each of the four channels. The Radio Sound HU only has two channels out, can I split those channels or will that harm the signal from the HU to the amp? At the moment, I only plan to run two channels to my fairing speakers, but I would like to add hard lowers w/ speaker pods in the future...

3. Finally, and bear with me on this one please, what is everyone using for speaker wire?

FYI, the speakers in the fairing are Biketronics 7.1s (4 ohm) that I pulled out of my batwing before selling it.

Thanks!

Run 8 ga power and ground. 30 or 40 amp fuse inline will be fine. Power to the battery and ground as well. 12 ga speaker wire.

The signal CAN be split with no ill effects

Mines in the mail, doing 2 ohm up top and 4 ohm in sides, will watch for mounting in fairing pics.
Do I do each speaker seperate in high, or bridge? Just starting with layout help.

Fenny - where are you going to mount this and how? Thinking of same amp. Let me know if it affects your FM reception.

I run that same amp and have it tucked under the glove box on the right side. Fits very well.

I plan on mounting it in the same spot as Zach did, between the glove box & wall of the inner fairing. I plan on trying a high strength velcro (I think that is how Dbell mounted his). If that doesn't work out, I will probably try to hammer something out of some sheet steel.

I'll let you know how much it affects the reception once I get it installed - I had to order the wire so it probably won't happen until next weekend at the earliest...

Alright, so I got everything installed and am very pleased with the results!

I stuck the amp between the glove box & inner fairing with velcro like I planned - this worked very well. Once the adhesive sets, its not coming off easy! I did have to pull the amp off & re-position it a couple times to get the outer fairing on properly, but no big deal.

There is however quite a bit of interference with radio reception. However, I have a J&M (i think) power antenna from the previous owner and I live out in the sticks where reception is poor to begin with - so I didn't have much going to begin with. I've never been too confident in the abilities of power antennas though and I may try to find a whip antenna to mount at the rear and see if that helps. I usually just hook my iPhone up to the aux in the radio anyway so I'm not really concerned...

Hope this helps

Hey Fenny.....I still have the original whip antenna and can send it out to you. The cable is still ran to the back of the bike so it should be a simple install. PM me your addy and I will get it out to you in a couple days.
