Hawg Wired Adapter Problems

After reading many posts and saving my money, I installed my Alpine 149bt head unit in my 06 RG with the hawg wired kit for both hand controls and mounting. At the same time I also added a Sound stream 520 amp and Hertz speakers.
Long story short, everything works fine except my hand controls.
I will check all my connections and wiring and it works in my garage. I button it all up , and go for a ride, 10 seconds in, the volume control stops working. Then it will not work again. every other function works and I have no issues with them. I could live with this even though it drives me crazy, but then at random times it will start raising the volume ,(or lowering) to the max limit and stay there like I'm holding my finger on the button. The only way to get it back working is to pull over, shut engine off,(because the off button on the stereo doesn't work with the volume being stuck) then turn it back on. That always fixes it ! If it were a bad switch or short, I would think this would not make a difference.
I have checked all the wiring many times, no short, or pinched wires can be found. I'm just about to sell the whole lot and go back to the stock HK unit. At least all the controls work on it.
Anyone here ever had a similar issue? Any advice would be appreciated!

im running same deck and amp,and have had similar issues, all controls working fine, then nothing at all then ten minutes down the road same thing,it gets to be a pita for sure.i talked with hawgwired and they told me there controller is solid state and it either works or it doesn't,and that most likely the blue wire plugging into the back of the headunit is loose and while riding it vibrates around causing this issue,i pulled my fairing off and found all wires on controller tight and the blue wire seemed fine,i then taped the blue wire into back of headunit to see if that would help, still doing the same thing,im interested in others experiences with this and possibly a fix.

I feel a lot better just knowing this is a common problem.
I could even live without the volume control. I do like all the other functions that work fine , like mute, changing tracks, source change, pause, etc.
I wonder if there is a way to just disable the volume control part?
Probably just wishful thinking.

I have again spent a large amount of my day going the manual to the Alpine deck. It says on page 27 of the owners manual, That you can calibrate the steering wheel buttons if you do the following :Press and hold the audio button, then go to general using the search (volume ) button and then a go to a section on steering controls.
I don't have that option when I get there! very frustrating! anyone else have this option?
Also, Alpine has a universal steering wheel adapter for this stereo. Does anyone know anything about that?

I just installed the Alpine 149bt with the HW adapter and have had no issues... I did use some electrical tape to just help hold everything together but over 1k since the upgrade and no issues so far.....

I'm not sure what that is so, no.
I spent an hour on the phone after work today with Rich at Hawgwired! He was patient with me and we worked through a couple things. I can get it to work most of the time now, but not every time. Rich thinks its an Alpine jack issue. It seems to not fit in the jack as tight as it should? When I put the 3.5mm plug into any other jack, it feels like it engages, but when I put it in the Steering Wheel Control jack on the radio, it seems like It doesn't have a good mechanical click. It seems to come out very easily without much force, and when I took the fairing off this time, it had vibrated out about 1/2 mm. That may have been because the last time I tried a different down angle against the bottom of the bracket that holds the radio.

I also talked to a audio tech who said he was familiar with the hawgwired setup. He thinks that the hawgwired adapters are junk and says he's seen and heard of a lot of issues. Who knows, he may be just blowing smoke up my @$$!
Next stop, Alpine tech support to see if they think the plug could be the issue. If so, hopefully I can get a new unit or this repaired, because I bought it online from Amazon, and Friday was 30 days since I received it, so they won't exchange it.
After I got off the phone with Rich, they were gone for the day!
Anyone else ever notice how tight the plug was on the back of the HU?
I'm grasping at straws at this point.

Don't have the hawg wired but the plug on the biketronics fit tight, no issues at all. Can you return or exchange the adapter? If don't work they should work with you as many hold their customer service to a high standard.

I have permission to send it back for a replacement, but now I'm wondering if the plug on the Alpine HU is the problem.
