Best Helmet Head Phones and other Audio Questions?

Evening folks. I've only had my Road Glide for 2.5 weeks. I've already put more miles on it than the last bike I owned for over a year. I truly love it better than any other bike I've owned.

But I need help. First I want to take advantage of the communication system between driver and passenger. I wear a helmet, but the OEM Harley headset speakers were WAY TOO BIG for my Shoei helmet holes. But they fit nicely in my daughters helmet so I mounted them in there.

What Brands would you suggest that are high quality and work with the Harley wiring?

Also - I'm reading alot about "Head" replacement on here. What the heck is that?

Any tips that you folks would recommend for improvements would be great. I was wondering if there was a system I could upgrade to that had bluetooth to connect with my iphone?
Thanks!
Murphy

Hey, Murphy. Glad you like the new bike. Head replacement refers to replacing the Harmon Kardon radio unit. Lots of opinions will come your way on what to get in the after market. As to headphones, cannot help you because I am looking as well.
Ride safe.

Well, first, I am going to assume you have an Ultra with the Intercom/CB. The H/K also has Volume Control the raises the radio volume with increase in speed.

The "Head Replacement" some talk about is replacing the H/K radio with another brand radio. If you think about going that direction, remember removal of the H/K radio also removes the Intercom and prevents addition of any radio accessory sold by Harley for use on the H/K radio. Some radios do have volume control. But it must be tied into the Harley Buss to make it work correctly.

There are several companies that offer Helmet Headset. The sound quality is up to personal opinion. I, myself like and use the headsets from J&M Corp. I have used their headsets sense around 1985 when I first installed their radio/Intercom/CB kit they offered. I have tried the Factory Harley Headsets and the "Earbud" type headsets. But always came back to J&M. The latest headsets are modular and can be more easily repaired. The J&M Corp is a site sponsor and John (the owner) posts regularly and answers question on this forum.

And Harley has the IPod Interface Kit (76476-10) that does work with the IPhone. I don't think Harley still has a Bluetooth kit available, except on the 2014 model radios.

Any headset you select will be up to you. Good luck and Ride Safe.

I like J&M audio products as well. Their customer service is top notch.

Yes sorry. I have a RG Ultra. So I want to take advantage of all the intercom/cb/stereo options. The Harley Head Phones are about 2 1/4 inches in circumference - which are way too big for my Shoei cut out holes in my GT Air helmet.

Does anyone know the circumference of the J&M Elite Headphones?

I"ve got money burning a hole in my pocket.

Murphy

I installed the J & M headset into my Nolan N43 ¾ helmet and love it.
Have been using this headset for the last 2 years and it works well.

J & M good company to deal with and good customer service.

Enjoy

I think you might find that to be the case with just about any speakers. Shoei did not leave much room for decent sized speakers. I carved out a bigger hole in my helmet for the J&M speakers, but they sound good and my ears are not squeezed. I cut out the plastic speaker well, and I opened up the foam just enough to let the speakers lie flush with the pads. They just sit in there, no glue, no velcro. On my older Multitec, they sat there for 50,000 miles without a problem. Same situation on the new Neotec.

I cut the pockets wider for the HD speakers, too.
