First step of my system ordered

I've went back and fourth between PBR amps, Infinity Speakers, Hawg Wired, J&M, Soundstream amps, but today I finally pulled the trigger and ordered Biketronic 7.1's and there 2180 amp to drive them.

I kept reading about people trying this and tweaking that and it all seems eventually they end up with BT7.1's and a BT amp. I don't know if I am skipping a couple steps and saving money or if I am wasting money on really high end stuff that I'll never hear the difference, but I didn't want to do it twice.

I'm hoping this is enough to keep me satisfied, but I already have it in the back of my head that if this doesn't get the job done, I'm going to do lids with BT 6x9's and another 2180.

For now just the stock head unit, will updated this when it comes in and I get it installed. Be nice if it made it here before Friday.

That was actually a very good decision. If you just wanna get it out the way once and for all then this is the way to go. The only thing I would do different is just go ahead with the 4180 anyways. You already are entertaining the idea of adding rear speakers, so why not just go ahead and get the amp out the way and do the install once as opposed to doing it over a second time. Also, by buying two 2180 amps, you will spend more than you would for buying one 4180. Just a thought. I have never heard the BT combo but im sure you'll be happy. I have the Kappa/Pioneer combo and my amp puts out a wee bit more power than yours and I am super duper happy.

Well in the back of my head, I'm telling myself I'm going to be happy without the lids, so the extra 200 for the 4180 while telling yourself you don't need lid speakers is how I got to the conclusion. BTW Phat Perfomance has biketronics stuff as cheap as I found anywhere. Don't have it yet so can't say how there service is, but price was right.

I have the BT 7.1 speakers. When I first got them I wasn't happy because they didn't sound that good. I since learned my installer just threw them in without matching/tuning them to my amp (Arc KS 125.4). This is possibly because I blew out two sets of the speakers he recommended. The amp's four channels are bridged to two. I am running a Kenwood head unit also. After I tuned the amp to match the speakers I am now very happy with them. Almost all speakers sound decent when the bike sits still. These speakers sound good at 70mph and driven at high volume (27-29 out of 35 on my unit). I've never played it at 30 because it is almost too loud. Nonetheless, the speakers handle it and with this head unit the distortion is almost non-existent.

Head unit is next on my list. I am going to be using the HK head unit for the time being, but wanted to get the speakers I wanted and the amp I wanted first. Hopefully this is a two step process and I can get the head unit swapped out in a couple weeks. I've got it narrowed down to either a kenwood or a Pioneer. The pioneer has a rear USB, which I am thinking would work great to run that up into my left side glove box. That's where I keep my phone anyway and it would be a clean no wires set up.

If you can swing it I would strongly recommend you consider swapping the head unit now...it makes a huge difference in sound quality. I ran the stock HK head unit through a number of speakers and amps. The sound was better than stock due to the speakers and amp. The HK unit is (for the most part) durable. But that is all I can say about it. However, the sound quality, distortion levels, and functionality were greatly improved with the aftermarket (Kenwood) unit. It was like night and day. IDK which is better, the Kenwood or Pioneer. Ultimately it will be up to you to determine whatever suits your needs best. However, my Kenwood has a rear USB input that I run through my right side glovebox. I run both my iPod and my iPhone through it. It works flawlessly...MUCH better than the Iron Cross adapter setup I had connected to my stock HK unit. BTW, my head unit also has Bluetooth capability. In retrospect I wish I would have swapped it out earlier...IJS.

which kenwood do you have that has a rear USB?

It's not in the cards as of yet, but should be by the end of the month. 90% of this upgrade has to stay off the wife's radar, so squirrled cash is funding most of it.
