14-15 Harley Radio FLASH Best Procedures Again!

For those of you adding a J&M ROKKER XTP/XXRP, Performance Series or other Non-Harley brand AMPLIFIERs to your 2014-2015 Harley Infotainment radio, the proper Harley radio flash is critical to top level audio system performance, combining low distortion with a high volume level potential from whatever speaker/amplifier combination you are using ,,,,,,

unfortunately some of the Harley dealer technicians can be difficult to persuade to perform this special radio flash J&M has worked on, exactly as per the instructions ,,,,,

I have further simplified these Harley radio flash instructions below to try and make it easier ,,,,,

We have had more than 48 radios flashed now here at J&M & various shows, so we know that if it is done right, it really does work ,,,,,,

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is recommended that you print this document in its entirety & become familiar with the procedures for this flash right alongside your Harley dealer’s digital technician personal so that additional re-flashes will not be necessary.

Under SPEAKERS TAB:
• Select number of amps? SELECT 0.
• Then CHECK BOX for 0 amps, 4 speakers, Upper Fairing/Rear pods.

Under OPTIONS TAB:
• Amp 2 Installed? CHECK YES.
• Amp 1 Installed? CHECK YES.
• Intercom? CHECK YES (optional if using driver/passenger intercom).
• Bluetooth? CHECK YES (optional if using cell phone Bluetooth linking).
• CB? CHECK YES (optional if using 40-CH CB Radio).
• CB Frequency? CHECK AM (optional if using 27Mhz AM USA Spec 40-CH CB Radio).

One the above parameters are conformed with, the Harley digital technician should then download the complete flash into the motorcycle as normal.

This is the flash you recommend for most other Amps ? No longer the Amp 1 and 2 off and number of speakers 8 as previously stated ?

Just curious What is the change or reason for recommending this new flash ? Thanks.

correct ,,,, this information was updated from J&M in response to Harley's updates to their digital technician computer software ,,,,,

we have flashed hundreds of Harley radios now between our dealer in Tucson and the Harley dealer at Daytona Bike Week ,,,,, we DO have it dialed ,,,

However, this whole ordeal is a nightmare to the normal rider, who is bombarded with various bits of information, some of it true, some of it not true ,,,,,

I have already seen many cases, where the dealer tech checked all the right boxes from this instruction sheet, http://www.jmcorp.com/pdf/HarleyRadi...04-02-2015.pdf and THEN did not perform the download properly into the Harley radio, so no flash updates were configured, even though they thought they were ,,,,,,,

I hope to have the ability to perform the Harley radio flashes at the BIG J&M audio trailer soon, so the nightmare for the normal rider can end if they get their system installed us ,,,,,,,

now ,,,, I in no way mean to say that YOUR Harley dealer is not capable of doing the special J&M/Harley flash, because many dealers all across the country have done it properly, it is just that "I" hear about all of the failures ,,,,,,

I had the recommended flash done yesterday, according to the Rockford Fosgate bulletin. No bass at all now, but the distortion is gone at high volume. I installed a new 2 channel amp & 2 front fairing speaker, Hertz HCX165, Biketronics Bt2180(180 watts RMS per channel ). I work for Motorola & set this speaker & amp system up on my work bench with an mp3 player, sounded good on bench with speakers in an encloser. Disappointed with how it sounds on 2015 Road Glide Special. Will this new suggested J&M FLASH work with that set up? Thanks!

I emailed Rockford about their bulletin on What to Flash for the '15 RGS and here is the response I got

"Response Via Email(Forrest) - 05/11/2015 08:45 AM
the problem is HD is changing the software before you do this up date, that will make it out dated and unsure how the operation should go. if they put the 1.8.3.3 on then we have no idea the proper setting. they are making it only work with the boom system, we are going this week to reverse program a bike and find out the proper method for set up. as of right now we dont know."

I would say listen to What JM John has to say or sit with the Harley Tech and see what sounds best to you.

Keith ,,,,

RFosgate is fighting the same thing we are ,,,,,,,, but I realize that does not help YOU right now ,,,,,

many of the speaker components that you have listed do NOT produce as much bass as the J&M stuff ,,,,,, but some would say that I am expected to say that ,,,,,,

do you plan to attend the AMERICADE rally in early June ?,,,,,,

we are set up now at Laconia HD in Meredith NH ,,, we have a good arrangement with the dealer here to make sure that the Harley radios get flashed properly for the best performance ,,,,,,

I am also seeing posts over on HD-Forums by Biketronics, advising these same J&M/Harley radio flash instructions ,,, so evidently THEY have also tried them with favorable results ,,,,

easy to follow ,, the J&M/Harley radio flash instructions are here http://www.jmcorp.com/pdf/HarleyRadi...04-02-2015.pdf ,,,,

Have you updated any of your radios with the latest 1.19 upgrade yet? Did you have to reflash? I've heard mixed reviews and I'm a little reluctant to update as my amp speakers are working great after using your flash instructions.

I believe ((and please anybody that knows for 100% sure correct me if I am wrong)) the updates you are doing to the radios by internet download are a completely separate issue from the speaker & options configuration FLASH that we do thru the side panel of the bike ,,,,

Angry Alpine help.

Direct me to the right area if I am wrong please.....

2015 RGS. I have Alpine type X 6.5 components KTP-445 amp bridged to 90 watts. The components have external crossovers which are installed. I used an SNI-35 to get signal from the regular input from the speaker leads off the back of the radio. I know what these speakers are capable of and I am not thrilled with the way they sound in the enclosures. Before I go cutting the enclosures (assuming the speakers are not getting enough air space) I would like to know if flashing the radio will help with the quality or distortion being produced from the head unit will improve.

For reference I install/sell car audio. The set up I am using changes the impedance from 2 to 4 ohm. But running 4 ohm amp and 4 ohm speaker. I know this to not be the barrier.

Thanks in advance...
