Need advice on next steps

I have been tinkering with my stereo set up since buying my bike back in 2010 and I am tired of being let down. I don't want to spend a ton but could really use some advice on what is my best option to go. Currently I am running the HK factory head unit, Soundstream Nano amp and Kicker CS65 series 6.5" speakers in the faring. I don't have lowers or a tour pack so am limited to the two speaker set up.

I was thinking of just replacing the head unit with the Alpine CDE-143BT but don't know if that's the best option or not. I just want to be able to hear it at highway speeds without blowing the speakers.

Any advice is appreciated and my budget is $500 or less
