B54 settings?

I'm almost finished installing everything. I'm using a CV B54, 2 Hertz HCX165's and a PAC converter. I know there are some experts here. 2ohm 4 ohm, bridged or not, so many setting on this amp I'm freakin lost. Those of you running this set up, how would recommend I set the amp?

Hey Mud,

Since you're going to be running two of the Hertz HCX 165 I'd be tempted to go ahead and bridge. That will give you 300W x 2 channels at 4 ohms.

On that AMP you can run either high level or low level speaker inputs (if yours came with the optional low level input piggy back wires). If it were me, I'd try it both ways and see which sounds the best, choosing either the high level or low level speaker input method depending on which one produces the best sound. If you end up going high level speaker inputs you won't need the PAC line out converter.

With the Hertz I'd set the crossover switch to Full Pass and see what you can get out of it. If the speakers seem like they are bottoming out on the low end before you hit your desired volume, switch the crossover to High Pass and set the crossover frequency to somewhere between 80-120Hz.

This is my first day off so I finished it up and went for a ride. I didn't get as much sound as I had hoped. It's loud enough at highway speed, but it's all highs. I didn't expect any low end but I barely have mids. The gain is about half way, switch is on flat, and about 100 htz. For what I spent I just wanted a little more. I could fine tune some more later I guess, but that fairing can be a pain. At least it was this time. Thanks for the advise! Now on the the next project. Seat cover and exhaust.

Did you end up using the high level input or convert to low level input (from the radio to the AMP)?

How are you triggering the AMP to turn on?

Did you go with the bridged mode or stick with strictly 2-channel?

I'm surprised that you are "underwhelmed" with the results. Frankly your system should really kick butt, so I'm wondering if there is something that was missed in the install or the settings.

Earlier this morning I downloaded the B54 user guide from Cerwin-Vega, because I got to thinking that I might have steered you wrong in my previous post (based on my experience with the B2 and B52 that are only 2-channel Stealth Bomber AMPs).



After reading through the user guide it appears that when bridging for 2-channel stereo you have to set the 2-channel output switch (switch #8) to "2-channel" in order to get the full 150Wx2 at 4 Ohms.

So, if I'm reading the spec. sheet correctly....... if you didn't bridge and you didn't set the AMP to 2-channel operation, you might only be getting 80W per channel at 4 Ohms because you are only using the front channels. Have a look at the thumbnail that I attached.

One thing I forgot......... on most AMPs if you have the Filter set to Full Pass, All Pass etc. the frequency control dial is disabled. Frequency control should only work if the switch is set to High Pass or Low Pass.

I'm running cv b2 with infinity kappas 62.11i. I'm using pac 50 with the dials on pac about 75% up, high pass on amp with the amp dialed to where I'm happy with the amount of bass being passed to the speakers. Head unit it flat and everything screams when hu is asset about 1/2. You'll just have to play with the settings but i suggest using hi pass on amp so you can control the bottom end going to the speakers. Since your using the 4 channel i would definitely bridge or drop the 4 channel and get a stable 2 channel amp. Bridging will make your amp work it's ass off.
