Factory Radio Discoloration

Has anyone experienced discoloration from their factory radio? It's not a special, it kinda looks like a plastic bumper that's been sun faded. Wondering what other members have done to correct the problem. I bought my bike used, so I'm just assuming it happens from being exposed to the sun.

Sorry for the shoddy pics

hard to tell from the photos, but let me ask you a couple questions.

How many miles on the bike?

Do you let it sit outside all day while at work uncovered?

What have you been touching the plastic with? Bare Hands? Gloves?

What have you used to clean the plastic? To clean the painted parts on the inner fairing?

Bike has 14k, I move it to the shade in the afternoon while at work, I only touch the home audio controls buttons, while riding or before taking off, bare handed

Haven't used anything to clean it yet, was looking for tips to try and get it back to looking like it came form the factory. Looks kinda like a whitish powder on it......Best I guess would be like a sun faded black plastic car part, if that makes sense

I have seen that on more than one, but fortunately the face plate is fairly easy to refinish if you choose to do so. Once you remove the radio from the bike, the entire front panel (the plastic fascia - including the glass can be separated from the radio chassis and the PCB control board). I've refinished two of them now using John Deere Blitz black, once from the spray can and once from my paint gun. Here are the two different finishes I came up with. One is a smooth finish, the other is a crinkle finish. Both of them turned out 100% better than I started with. I can walk anyone through disassembly, prep and paint if you want to refinish your own. Just shoot me a PM.

My very last question was the crucial one. Sometimes quick detailer sprays we use on painted surfaces can make unpainted surfaces look splotchy.

Before repainting, (wevsspot, love the crinkle look ) you might try some dawn and a microfiber towel to give it a good cleaning. Then try a plastic restorer protector like 303 protectant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f8Cs5upI3Q

But, if painting is in your skill set, I would definitely recommend painting.

I always use a UV protectant on unpainted surfaces that are outside.

Yeah, that one has been a hit with everyone that has seen it. Gives a great texture contrast between the radio and everything else on the dash.
