Decision......

I recently sold a HOGTUNES REV-200 system (2x100 amp and speakers) I had for my 2015 Special. It had a good sound at 80+ MPH. However, I'm looking for MORE.......
I bought a pair of ARC audio 602s thinking that would help.................. Not enough......
I need some help bringing the HD head unit back to life. I liked how H.T. had their system wiring was plug and play friendly.

Any advice on a price friendly system would be nice. I could keep the arc audios or start fresh.

So are you running the 602s with no amp, cause they should blow your mind compared to the hogtunes stuff? The 602s are my favorite coax and with 180-200W going to them they sound great. If you run one of the arc MPAK systems I believe you can get away without a BT line leveler, if not you really need the line leveler even for a simple 2 speaker system.

Don't get wrapped up in plug and play. Every amp will need power run back to the battery and if you can do that you can easily handle speaker/amp wiring. Anyone worth their salt sells stuff pre-wired for HD connectors and there's absolutely no need to have to cut a factory harness anymore.

I tried the Moto 602s with the H.T. amp. It didnt seem to have enough power to really make the Arcs bark
So now I'm looking to upgrade the amp and keep the 602s or upgrade everything. And i would like the keep from splicing/cutting the stock harness wires.....

Yep, the 602s like power and the hog tunes setup is an entry level low budget system. Nothing wrong with that, but it is what it is. It all comes down to how much you want to spend and what you want to do in the future. If you know for sure you're sticking to a 2 speaker setup and want to keep the cost down the 602s are a very good coax and since you already have them might as well build around them. Try to find a used biketronics 2180 (4180 if you want rear speakers later) or arc audio 600.4 amp and you're in great shape for a few hundred bucks. Will need a BT line leveler to flatten the signal from the HU. The diamond audio micro 4V2 is a very nice amp bridged as well and you may be able to find one of those cheap used. It fits in the RG between the radio bracket and headlamp bracket like it was designed to go there.

Check the classifieds here and the other big forum, will be pretty easy to find over the next couple of months with guys changing their setups over winter. No need to mess with the stock harness at all, plenty of outfits make the fittings that tie right to the existing system without cutting a single wire. If you want to go big that's a whole different discussion, let everyone know your budget and goals and others will chime in.

Keeping the 602s and finding a good amp to push them might be the way to go. Maybe a 4 channel for possible future additions. Ive been looking at the Biketronics 2180 or the 4180 possible package $$. I like the fact that they're made in Idaho USA.

Will have to keep watch for something to pop up......

So I will pop in and give my $0.02 since I have a '15 RGS with a Biketronics 4180 and arc 602's in the fairing. I am not on the up and up with all the audio lingo (yet), but I did a bunch of reading and chatting about what are good amps and speakers when making audio upgrades on a shark. I came to the conclusion that I wanted a Biketronics amp due to the lifetime warranty, awesome power output, simple plug and play without tuning (this is both a plus and a minus), and the fact that they were made right here where I live in Idaho. But when it came to speakers I read the BT speakers were more bright sounding, and I was hearing nothing but AWESOME reviews on the 602s and how they loved power. So I went with moto's.

Fast forward to today... is my system better than stock? Hell yes. Is it louder than stock? Hell yes. Is it everything I expected with a cherry on top? Meh.

I come to find out from an audio guru on the other forum that the 602's aren't "technically" the best match with the Biketronics amps due to their sensitivity rating. The BT amp likes speakers with a higher sensitivity rating. The moto 602's are rated at 88dB and some other speakers were recommended to me that were in the 93dB range. I ordered a pair of Polk MM652 speakers and they should be here later this week (got a great deal on them). We'll see what happens when I swap them out, but I am expecting a noticeable difference.

I do plan on adding lowers this winter, so the plan is to put the 602's in the lowers and run the Polks in the fairing. But I will have to do some testing to see the differences.

Do some digging before you carve that in cement. I really like the 602s in the fairing because they're in your face. Others have tried them in lowers and say they fade out around 45-50 mph. A lot of guys are going pro audio in the lowers - very high sensitivity and get loud quick. Not the fullest sound depending on the speaker, but loud enough to provide fill from that location.

Well just a quick update/review. Finally got around to giving the new Polk MM652's a try in my fairing. Initial impression with the bike on in accessory mode is that they sounded very loud and a lot brighter than the 602's. When I fired the bike up, they sounded very different - more "muddy" perhaps?? Anyways, when riding around town at 35-45 mph they definitely didn't sound as nice as the 602's, but they were plenty loud. The highs and lows of songs were just more abrupt and not as well rounded and rich as the 602's.

Then I decided to take it out on the highway at 75-80 mph with my full face shield down. This is where the volume difference was VERY noticeable. I could hear the music very plainly cruising at 80 mph with the shield down, and only a tick above half volume. With the Motos I would have had to pump it up probably 4-5 clicks higher. I also found that the sound of the speakers was actually better at a higher speed and volume.

The Moto 602's are a better sounding speaker for sure, but the amount of volume I was getting out of the Polk's was hugely noticeable. When I get lowers this winter, I think I will put the 602's back in the fairing and try the Polk's in the lowers. My thought is I will have the better sound quality in my face (fairing) and more filler volume from the Polk's in the lowers. I've got em, I might as well try em!
