Stage 1 is fairly expensive and really crappy. Stage 2 is really expensive and fairly crappy.

Boom is not the way to go. Plenty of aftermarket options available that are easy to install and will sound a ton better for a lot les $$$$$.

Do some reading here and the other forum. Once your head stops spinning call Alex at bagger audio lab with your budget and goals and he'll take care of you.

I second that - there are plenty of really good options out there sounding better but costing less!

The stock Rushmore comes with a set of 5.1/4" 2-way speakers driven by the HU 2x25 watts per channel amp.
The Stage 1 has two "flavors", either just a set of 6.1/2" 2-way speakers driven by the same HU amp or a set of 6.1/2" 2-way speakers driven by a 2x75 watts per channel Boom Audio Amp.
The Stage 2 has 6.1/2" 3-way speakers driven by a pair of Boom Audio amps.

If you really, really want the MoCo/Boom set-up go for the Stage 2. You can not "upgrade" a Stage 1 to a Stage 2. Bottom line, I have not met any who cares much for the Boom Audio Stage1/2 upgrade, go figure. It might sound just fine in the show-room but not out ridin' on the highway...IMHO

I dont think I could have put that any better. I WOULD have put it different ie: replace crappy with fuckin useless and shitty and we start to get close.

To the OP, there are plenty of options that will sound WAY better and not come close to denting your wallet the way the Boom! does, and at the end of the day, you will wind up ripping it out and replacing it anyway. I mean you can get better than Boom! for less than 500 bucks and you can get "Fuck Me!" for less than the Boom!.

JMO YMMV hope this helps.

Boom 1 consists of a Harley Boom 300watt amp and either 1pair Harley stage 1 speakers in the fairing, or a second pair in speaker lids. The Boom 1 speakers are a step up from stock speakers, but like roadie13 said fairly expensive and crappy. Stage 2 consists of the same amp using all 4 channels to power 2 stage 2 fairing speakers. these speakers are better than stage 1 and the tweeters are separate from the midrange part of the speaker and each uses a channel from the amp. If you have saddle bag speakers then you use a second Boom amp to power those stage 2 speakers which use 2 channels of the amp each. Stage 1 (1 amp 4 speakers) Stage 2 (2 amps 4 speakers) Both options expensive and crappy for the money.

The 6.5 head is solid but when it comes to speakers and amp, look anywhere other than Harley. I went with J&L Audio (4) C3 650's and the 500 watt amp MX, 500/4 No regrets crystal clear and plenty Loud at highway speeds.

Small correction on Viking's comment, the Rushmore Road glides have 6.5" stock speakers. I only mention this because there are many aftermarket speaker options of 6.5" and changing most to them does not require adapter rings. If the speakers use 4 mounting holes they fit right into the stock speaker housings. Also, if you only want to upgrade the fairing speakers make sure you purchase 2 ohm speakers which is what the stock speakers are. Once you go to amp upgrades there are different options for speakers depending on the specs of the amp. The difference between 2 and 4 ohm speakers is simple, 2 ohm is less resistant to the incoming signal compared to 4 ohm. Harley used stock 2 ohm speakers because the head unit only puts out 25 watts per channel.

This is a great time to be in the audio market. Lots of guys upgrade over the winter, so some good deals can be found in the classifieds on barely used mid level equipment. All of which will blow boom away. Even if you go new, $1000 will get you a very good front fairing setup.
