I think that I paid $243 for the Diamond micro4v2, vs $118 for the Soundstream. Not a heck of a lot more.

Would suck to chop up the fairing for a speaker I donít plan on keeping vs being out $118 for that soundstream amp and at least get by in the meantime. Itís not necessarily a budget but I donít really wanna be into this with $500 speakers and a $500 amp, maybe more so $500ish total.

With that said do you think the hertz esk 165L.5 with say the JL HX280/4 (or MX?) or preferably the soundstream pn4.520D would be a decent choice.
Hey Trevor, if it's a choice between a very good AMP or a very good set of speakers to start you off, IMHO you're better served spending the money on a very good AMP and compromising on the speakers initially.

If I were spending my own money, I'd grab the Diamond Micro4v2 and the Infinity Kappas. Speakers are an easy swap down the road once you want to "upgrade" again

I wanted to thank everyone for the input and suggestions and so on. I wound up playing it safe with what fits and ordered the Hertz MPX 165.3 and JL audio HX280/4. I originally wanted a component set but was a little nervous with the Hertz ESK due to they have a paper woofer according to the description. I also ordered a Biketronics line leveler so hopefully it should all be here middle of this week. Hopefully install is easy.

Again thank you everyone.

Great. Keep us posted and good luck with the install. Anxiously awaiting your review

The Hertz MPX165.3 may require the use of Biketronics' tapered speaker rings.

Are you planning on using the speaker high level inputs on the AMP or use RCA low level inputs on the AMP? If you're going to use the low level inputs remember that you'll need a line out converter, preferably the Biketronics BT355.

Remember, that in order to get the very best out of that AMP and speaker combination you'll need to run the AMP in bridged mode so that you can push 140W x 2 out to your Hertz speakers.

Thinking about Audio Speakers and Amp for my 18 RGU - noticed you said Boom is gone on yours - will this setup plug and play with the Boom Audio 6.5 or am I stuck going Harley Stage II stuff? BTW, your Road Glide Special looks awesome!

Hey Jim, lets start a new thread just for you. That way we don't hijack Trevor's thread. I'll join you in there.

I just finished installing and putting everything back together. I did use the Biketronics BT355 (never mentioned I was using it, sorry). The amp mounted under the radio with zero problems (trim adhesive and zip ties), and the speakers fit only with taking the rubber cap off the speaker, I probably could have left it on and trimmed the pod a little to make it work. If I put spacers in it looked like it would interfere with the stock grille so I wanted to get them to seat at the factory position.

I did wire it bridged but only had the RCA’s to do it mono. Not sure if I’m going to tear it all apart again soon to add rca splitters to make it “stereo”. Is there an actual difference to make it worth it to do it?

I have the input sensitivity set at about 11o’clock, frequency at about 80hz, filter on hp, and input sensitivity on low. I couldn’t get my multimeter to read correctly for whatever reason only got up to 18volts from 11o’clock and on (bike running, bass and treble zero, volume 13, 1khz test tone) but figured I was safe there messed with the bt355 a little but returned where it was at least very close (got better sound with a slight adjustment). Plugged speakers in and it truthfully sounds amazing, it’s very loud and clear. I’m gonna take it easy on everything break it all in and dive into it again maybe.

Guys for future reference, not sure how the 2016 RGS fairing is setup, but I can tell you for a fact the Diamond Audio Micro 4V2 will not fit in the fairing of any 2017+ bikes. Been there done that. Ended up putting mine in the bag. Everything else said about this AMP is true, its the best bang for the buck out there. It will however destroy the Kappas. They cannot handle the power of the Diamond Micro4V2. Go for some better speakers.

Where and how in what orientation did you try mounting it?

It will work fine with the kappas, just turn the gain down. Yes, higher end speakers will sound better, but itís not an issue of the kappas being able to handle it.
