2006 audio upgrade. Help an audionoob out!

Ok, so I am looking at upgrading my Audio set on the bike. It is totally stock except for a hawgtunes Bluetooth piece I put in last year. Which BTW, gave out on me right at the end or the riding season. It will not search for signal and I just let it go because I knew I was taking everything apart this winter.

So, also last year right at the end of the season. I had a speaker go out. Not blow, just stopped working. In talking with my service guy at HD, he thinks that is probably the radio. If so, this would be the SECOND unit I have put on my bike in 3 years. First one I lost all display, radio would work, just couldn't see display. Now, the display did fade out once or twice this year as well, but came right back on.

so now I am looking at doing some upgrading. My service guy is against getting a new head unit because he has yet to see something that isn't Harley last more than a year or two when wet. My response was his Harley unit hasn't fared any better. And for a refurbished Harley Radio it is $350. BUT, I really want to be able to keep the ability of using my radio controls on the bars.

So, I know my bike is ancient, and I am a COMPLETE moron when it comes to this stuff, I was the light guy and drum tech for the bands, whenever I had to run sound I just knew which fader to bring up for the guitar solo's. I have read many threads on here and you might as well have been speaking Mandarin Chinese.

This is what I am looking on adding from what I have picked up here.

Speakers: Infinity Kappa 62.11 150w 6.5inch 2 way
Amp: Cerwin Vega B52 Stealth Bomber Class D Amp b52 2 channels, 1,000W

That's about it. Now, After I pull the faring off I have to see why my speaker stopped working and the blue tooth. So if I need a new radio, do I need a conversion wire set so I can get the hand controls to work? And if I get something besides Harley, what would it be? I can pay the $350 for the new Harley radio, but I really think I could get something AT least as good if not better for that price.

Help a brother out. I cannot go without my tunes. My standard set up wasn't even that bad for me, I could hear it @70MPH, wasn't clear, but I could hear it.

C'mon, it's Czechoslovakia. We zip in, we pick 'em up, we zip right out again. We're not going to Moscow. It's Czechoslovakia. It's like going into Wisconsin.

IMHO your missing link is the Head Unit....Biketronics has a rain cover that Shit tight and worked on my Alpine going on six year now....Amp and infinity are solid performance....It's been proven in many builds....
Do more research on HU and your OEM unit....Remember, cry once, pay once....Good luck..
Again, BT has everything for plug and play for your year bike...

Ill 2nd the Alpine HU. I been running the Alpine 149 bt. for over 4 yrs. I do use a Vtwin rain guard. It sounds great hooked up to a Soundstream nano amp into 4 infinity speakers. The Alpine is easy to see the display in the daytime and has all the bells & whistles.

Ok, so just so I have this altogether.

I looked at the

biketronics: BT1005X - 1998-2013 MULTI-BRAND RADIO INSTALL KIT

Head unit: Alpine CDE-HD149BT Single-Din Bluetooth Car Stereo with HD Radio, Premium LCD Display and SiriusXM Ready

speakers and AMP:

Speakers: Infinity Kappa 62.11 150w 6.5inch 2 way
Amp: Cerwin Vega B52 Stealth Bomber Class D Amp b52 2 channels, 1,000W

Is that all I need? Do I need the splash guard from Biketronics or is there something else?

under the biketronics install kit it states: Radios must have a wired remote input, sometimes called a steering wheel remote input.

Does the stock HU for the alpine come with that. From what I have read I haven't seen that yet.

Thanks, for your input guys, I am really looking forward to this if I can make it all work right.

No it doesn't, unless you bought a kit from one of the vendors. You will need a steering wheel inerface. BT ,Hawg-wired sells them . There are a few cheaper ones that work on the market also.
Make sure you buy a splash guard from who ever sold you the installation kit.

Speaker adapters, amp wiring kit and I would suggest the Vtwin Audio splash guard and mounting kit.

Vtwin kit is the way to go. It's expensive but worth it imho.

If I were you I would double check the guy that told you the head unit was bad! That being said, I personally like the HK units. You can send them away to get fixed. I think the name is iron cross or something like that.
You can make your bike sound great with a little research. 1st if all, it doesn’t matter what your amp wattage says. It’sthe RMS that’s important. Allot of amps advertise all sorts of AMPS but really don’t perform. Your choice of speakers is good, I have them in my lowers. But the better speakers (IMO) are the Polk MM 6501. Side by side they are better sounding. Also make sure your amp and speakers are rated to whatever OHMs the reciever is. That might be why you blew yours out? OHM incapability?
I have ran everything from rockfords to whatever.....
This is an easy set up and it is loud!
I cut out a 2in hole for the tweeters as this is a component system.
Made a mount for the Amp out of scrap.
Mounted the crossovers.
Mounted a rockford fosgate 4chanel line out converter. Ordered some coax wires and made the connections. All went to this Sound Ordnance AMP

Really cheap and it blows most high end systems away. It’s louder than my D&D header and you can hear it at 120 mph!

I used to run duel Rockfords but the heat in the fairing kills them. This AMP has a cooling fan.

A few more pics. I’m pretty sure I’m the only one with this speaker set up. A dremmel tool in the wire mesh grills and take your time. It’s not that difficult. My HK is reflashed for 4 channels with a hog wired pigtail (allows the use of the other channels). When I can, the Polks will replace the infinity's. The AMP was an experiment. It works well because this ststem is wired like a car system. Don’t ask me why I know, lets just say, I blew up a bunch of Amps and speakers....in pursuit of badassery!
