2017 RGU updating NAV?

I successfully updated the software via the link on moco's site:

Does this update also take care of the NAV system? Or, do I need to update via the other link:

I'm hoping I don't have to use the second link, as the website is a bit confusing... I don't want to buy the maps, I just want to update what I have. Reason being, there's a handful of addresses that I can't input because it doesn't recognize them.

The dealer POI can be updated from the H-D website, other than that you’d have to buy the map update.

I did find a way to update the NAV for free, but I haven't installed it yet (getting ready to). I went to that website (second image above) and downloaded their update tool. Then, I exported the software for the NAV to a flash drive. Connected the flash drive to my computer and started the update tool. It recognized the export on my flash drive and mentioned that there were updates available. It updated my file, and now I'm gonna go import it back into the bike.

I'm not sure how much of an update it is, but we'll see. The only other option (like you all said) is to pay for their extensive update; $160 (not happening; I'll upgrade the head unit and use Google Maps first...).

Well, I can't seem to get it to work. When I plugged the flash drive into the bike, it would search for a bit and then come up with an error, "NavSync_NoMapContent" or something like that. So, I took everything out of that folder that was updated and put it 1 level up on the flash drive. This time when I plugged it back in, it sat on "Authenticating" for over 10 minutes. I wasn't convinced it was working, so I unplugged it.

I'll mess with it more tomorrow when I have more patience.

Don't waste anymore time with it. In order to get a Map update, you have to export info off of your bike onto a thumbdrive, connect that to your PC or LT and go to Naviextras and slog through it from there. It isn't free, not sure what you got but unless it took a very long time to download (depending on your internet connection), you didn't get any maps.

On to the more long winded part. Even if you did want to pay the $150 for the maps, they're not worth it. I have a CVO and have installed two of my three updates. Many streets are not up to date so don't think they would be. You'd be disappointed. I have a Garmin in my work truck that has lifetime updates and I update it whenever there's one out. There's still streets in my area that are 3-4 years old and not included in what Garmin is putting out. They're a lot bigger than HD when it comes to maps. Don't think it's only HD that can't keep up with new streets, none of them can. Google maps is the closest thing and parts of my area are still not coming up in there.

Thanks for the info OBB.

I just came back from a short ride, and no idea if it updated anything yet, but it managed to wipe clean all my saved addresses, so I need to do that all over again...

It was a pretty small download; <20MB. I'll just deal with it for now and drop pins where it won't let me program the address.
