Stereo Upgrade Questions...

I'm sure this has been covered, but, I'm going to ask anyway....

I've been searching the forums, reading, trying to get a feeling for what's good, what's bad, and what will "FIT" my needs....

The ONE THING that I'm worried/concerned about is, "IS IT WORTH IT"?

When I ride, I use a Modular helmet. IF I have the chin bar down, and the visor down, I can't hardly hear the stock sound system.

IF I crack the visor, then I can hear things better.

I have a 2018 RGS, with the stock system.

I've ordered Advanblack lower fairings, with the speaker pods....

My thoughts are: Upgrade the Stock system in the upper fairing, and add speakers in the lower fairing, and THINK about adding Bag Lid speakers in the future.

I LIKE the Rockford Fosgate system because of the Bag Lid Template system.....And it seems the least expensive of the systems I'm looking at, but, I'm not sure their 4 channel Amp will run 6 speakers. Upper Fairing, Lower Fairing, then Bag Lids later.

Then, there's Soundz, and Biketronics, and a Big step up in price too.....And options to step up even higher within those systems (Upgraded Speakers, PRO Amps......).

Plus, I'm considering upgrading the the Sony AX-XAV5000, but, with the XAV7000 on the horizon, I'm thinking of waiting to see what that head unit is all about....

OR, I could just use Headphones connected to my iPhone, and save a shit ton of money.....

Thanks in advance for the advice....

I have the Rockford system, I like it works fine for me only running 4 speakers though, others will say its junk but I dont care I can hear it crystal clear at 80mph

I run the Sony it, the 7000 doesn't appear to have anything different but a bit more power

But one thing, whatever you do get the stock speakers out of there they are absolute crap

I went with the Biketronics 2250 and Hertz 1650.3 in the fairing. With a 3/4 helmet it's loud and clear, but when I wear my modular I really have to push it to hear clearly and everyone around hears it clearly as well!!

However for great sound if you ride with a modular or full face helmet all the time, save your $$ and get a Cardo Freecom unit with the JBL speakers. Sounds great and you will save at least a grand to upgrade elsewhere..... Suspension maybe??

Or just use your earbuds.

In The Audio Section, of The Other Forum, a lot of guys with the Rushmore Harley's are swearing by The MMats PA 601CX for the Fairing and Lowers and The MMats PA690.4CX for The Lids.
The go to amps that are recommended are, in no specific order, MMats MD4110, Stinger SPX700X4 and Soundigital 800.4S EVO.
A good way to decide what fits your liking is to go on The YouTube and listen, with earbuds, to speakers you may be considering.
Best of Luck and keep Us posted on how You make out.

You already have the lowers so start there and do the fairing too. Get a good 4 channel amp. The three mentioned above are all good choices. Get one Biketronics BT355 if your are going to keep stock radio, not needed with the Sony. Get your ears on some speakers so you can see what you like. Right now the most often recommend 6.5 coax speaker are the MMats PA601CX.4CX and the DB Drive Moto G2. Fair warning, you will have to modify your speaker pods in the fairing with either of those speakers. I can/have post pictures if you want to see what needs to be done. You will have no problem hearing the music with 4 of either of these speakers with proper power and tuning. I’m a MMats fan boy so that is my preference.

As you can see, a lot of great options out there. I have a modular helmet and use the HD Bluetooth wireless helmet setup and that works for me. You have to get the HD branded headset to get stereo from the radio.

2019RGS Sound Sucks.

Hey Guys,

I picked my 2019 RGS up last Saturday. Went and did a 400km ride yesterday and the stereo on full volume cannot be heard. I was wearing a modular helmet yesterday, but I usually wear a ĺ. I was so disappointed.

So, looking at the forum here, the Biketronics gear seems to be the best for customer service and warranty so Iím looking at a system that will allow me to keep the HD head unit, but add an amp and speakers.

As far as I am aware, apart from HD, there really isnít any aftermarket audio dealers in Aust for bikes so I have been looking at Biketronics. Will 2180 and the Mille Legends work with this head unit? Iím not after lowers, saddlebag mounts, Iím just after good sound from the front at up to 140kmís per hour, approximately 90mph.

Thanks in advance guys.

Yes that would definitely be an improvement.

I had the BT2180.BT2180.15 in my 16. Thays all I needed to make me happy at 70mph with a FF helmet on. Couldn't really hear the bike. Worth every penny of the 800 bucks. You can add all the speakers you want. If you dont have ample power to them. It's not going to help.

Cry once.
