School me up a little

For the 2019 Boom system, what is the file structure when setting up a data key.

Does everything need to be in one file?

Multiple files under one root folder?

Multiple folders?

Basically I'm wanting to set up play lists like I had on my IPod.

Not sure this will answer your questions. I just whole sale copy the files and folder structure from my PC after stripping the CDs with the iTunes app. I recommend a test as I have read about mixed results with multiple file structures on this forum (can't find the old posts though).

Copy your "iTunes Media" and your music folders to the USB drive. Copy these folders and files again to the same USB drive as "iTunes Media -Copy" or some other different name. See if it works and the audio system will let you select between the two sets of music? If yes, try it again with more copies.

i have a 2019 gts. I have my music copied to a flash drive under multiple folders. not had any problem. but, I also don't use playlists. I just have it on 'shuffle' and let it play.

the only thing I did notice is that no matter how many songs it has played, if it plays the 'last' one, ie 900 of 900, unless you have 'repeat' on, it will just stop after that song.

I understand the concept of reality, but find it too confining for a way of life.

I got a lot of “double” tracks and no album art when I copied on to a thumb drive. I eventually just got hold of an old iPhone and loaded the music on there and stick it in the cubbyhole as a dedicated music player

Mine's a 2020, but I don't think they changed anything from 2019. Same setup worked fine on the 2015 version.

I'm using a 64GB thumb drive formatted FAT32, all 256 KBPS MP3 files, about 8000 songs.

File structure is Artist/Album/Song.

I don't use playlists. Everything is working great. I have album art, can play by artist, album, etc. Generally keep it on random, but I don't use the bike stereo too often.

This is the same setup I use in all of our vehicles, except I upped the size in the cages to 256GB when they were on sale recently. 256 is overkill, but 64 is not quite big enough to hold everything.

The ID3 tags is what makes everything work in these systems. When I first set this up I spent a lot of time getting the tags right and I make sure that everything added has the tags right. With proper tags the file structure really doesn't matter, so you can set it up however is most convenient. MP3Tag is a great, free program to fix tag and add album art.

So when you play off of the key, when you select an artist, does the system restrict itself to files in that folder, or will it move on to other folders when its done with that group of songs?

It's any song by that artist, regardless of folder. Determined by the embedded ID3 tags.
