Ear Bud/Helmet Speaker Jack

Has anyone wired a 1/8 inch stereo jack for ear buds or helmet speakers into their audio system? I don't ever use the fairing speakers as they just don't sound that good to me at 65 or 70 mph. I have both ear buds and helmet speakers that I have been using off of my Sirius Satellite radio via a mini amp, but the damn thing will never hold a charge for very long. I would like to wire a 1/8 inch stereo jack right into the speaker switch on my instrument pod, but I don't know if it would be too much amperage/voltage, whatever for the helmet speakers and blow them out. It would be great to be able to control volume through the handle bar switches as well. This is on an'07 RG with the Harman/ Kardon unit. There is a three way speaker switch on the instrument pod, and in the rear position the front speakers are off. A speaker pig tail runs to under the seat, which I assume is for a E-Glide style seat with rear speakers.
