Question Overlay Harness for 2011 FLTRU?

I'm planning on installing the factory xm radio kit 76404-06 in my 2011 Roadglide Ultra. Short of pulling the fairing I can't find anyone that can tell me if the Ultra's wiring harness will work or if i will need to buy the special overlay harness that's required for the standard FLT. Anyone got a clue?
Thanx in advance...

Use on any Ultra Model will require the additional purchase of an
Ultra Overlay Harness (Part Number 70164-06) and a left-hand
Antenna Bracket (Part Number 76456-06).

The Ultra already has a CB but to install the XM module, you need the Ultra Overlay Harness to plug into the Ultra Audio Harness.

Ultra models:.
a. Unplug the two halves of the 12-place CB connector already on the Ultra Audio Harness inside the Fairing.
b. Plug the overlay harness 12-place socket housing labeled "CB" into pin housing coming from the back of the CB module.
c. Plug the overlay harness 12-place pin housing (also labeled "CB") into the audio harness connector.
d. Plug the overlay harness 12-place socket housing labeled "XM" into the pin housing coming from the back of the XM radio module.

Installing the XM Antenna you insert the pink connector on the antenna cable into the mating pink connector on the back of the XM radio module.

Here is the link to the Installation Instructions.

Thanks for the info RoadGlideRider... I have found yet another harness (PN#70172-06) which is also listed for the FLTRU... It only has three connectors and the description indicates it does not provide connections for additional components. I was hoping that this was the one I needed (it being the least expensive). It's very confusing as I can't find any current info on it as applies to the FLTRU. I thought this might be an "adder" harness and all the existing wiring would remain unchanged... Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance...

BTW... Great looking ride and you are an impressive looking Warrior of the Empire!

If I remember correctly that harness is to install the XM harness only. If you want to install any other items, like the CB or Intercom, it will be removed and not used. This adds the XM to have the sound output in the speakers only. No headset, even for the rider.

I may have a brand new one for sale but need to verify the part number. Never even opened the package. I just ran out to my garage and it's not in any of the usual places. I need to dig through my pile of stuff and check it out. I'll sell it at 1/2 price plus shipping if you're interested. I'm leaving on a ride in about 20 minutes but I'll check when I get home tonight. I know I saw it a couple of months ago but I'm not always the most organized person when it comes to stuff I don't use. FYI, I purchased it by accident. The dealer wouldn't take it back. They told me up front and it's my fault. No blame on the dealership. I'll get back to you later.

Sent this to Martin via PM, but posting in case member in the future is looking for the info.

I basically replaced the CB unit in my FLTRU with the XM module. They use the same connector. Now if you use the XM and CB and you will NOT be intalling any other radio mudules you can use the "y" connector.

70172-06
IN-STORE PURCHASE ONLY Contact dealer for pricing and availability.
Allows installation of XM® Satellite components on Ultra models. Does not provide connections for additional components.
Fits '06-later FLHTCU, FLHTK, FLTRU and FLHTCUTG models equipped with Advanced Audio Radio.
MSRP US $49.95

Right now I'm debating on how to connect my ipod. If I use the radio's outside aux input, then I am just getting the "Y" connector above to reinstall the CB radio. But if I get the Harley ipod module, I think it comes with all the necessary wiring harness and there is no need to get the "Y" harness.

Things get complicated if I choose the ipod module AND the CB radio. As there is a bracket to install a 3rd module and you definitely have to get the bigger wiring harness 70164-06.

I can see it now, wires are going to be all over inside the fairing.

I added the CB and Intercom in my '09 Road Glide. Along with the Rear Speakers and other wiring I needed to add, I know what you are talking about. I even had more because I have my Sirius Satellite unit, the Hidden AM/FM and a CB antenna in there too.

I found, when I installed the Ultra Overlay Harness (70164-06), there is space notched in the Radio Bracket under the Interconnect harness for it. I had to move the radio in order to put it in place. But it cleaned up the wiring a great deal.

BdMastiff,
I'd definately be interested if it's the 'Y' harness PN#70172-06. I don't plan on adding any other Harley modules so that one should do just fine for my application... I too have a "Parts wall" from well intended but mistaken purchases (don't we all!)
Thanks
Martin

Sorry for quoting myself....

I got home about an hour ago and have been looking for the wire harness. Still can't find it. I'll let you know if it turns up. Sorry.
