Installing a KS125.2 mini

My wife gave me a Arc amp for my birthday. It will be here next week so I am looking for instructions on how to install this amp. Has anyone here used one of these amps? I am wondering if I should get the install kit that Arc offers.

I am already using J&M 7.25 speakers so I am really looking forward to hearing how this will sound now.

I can give you a quick run down....

Buy a 8 guage amp wiring kit. Run the 8 guage fused power wire from battery, under the tank to inner fairing. Take outer fairing off. You can mount the amp on top of the radio with velcro if you wish, or you can mount it beside the glove box on the inner faring. There are alot of options for mounting. Then run a 8 guage ground wire to something close to the amp inside the fairing if you can. I heard some people using the frame bolts to the fairing, some use the highway bar bolts... Just find a good ground. Then disconnect the wires from your J&m's, run the speaker wires to the high level inputs on the amp, and then run new speaker wire from the amp to the J&m's. Turn the AVC off or less than two bars. Set your EQ to zero, turn the gain all the way down, set the crossover on the amp to full range. Turn the volume up to 3/4. Use a test cd and play a solid 50hz tone.... turn the gain up untill it distorts , then turn it down jut a little. And your ready to go.

Or you can do the more accurate way of tunning the amp. Take your RMS wattage for one channel on your amp (125 watts) multiply that by the ohm's your speakers are wired to (2ohms) which in your case will equal = 250. Take the square root of that number (sqrt of 250= 15.81). Now take a volt meter or O-scope if your lucky enough to have one. Disconnect your speaker output and place the voltmeter cross one channel + and -. Play the 50hz test tone. Turn your gain up untill you have a voltage reading of 15.81. Then do the same for the other channel.

Hope this helps. Sorry I didnt have much time to do more detaails.

Donk,
That was a great post thank you a lot. Of course I just got done ordering Arc's install kit and it only has a 12 gauge power wire. O'well I'll just get a different power cable.
Again thanks for a great post.

12 guage will work fine. IM an overacheiver when it comess to audio so I would go with guage persoanlly. 12 should be ok. Good luck with your install.

Donk,
How do I get the 50Hz test tone? Is this from a special CD or something?

Thanks again. I just bought a 8 gauge kit too, I'll just send the ARc one back.

Donk, do you recommend the BX (bass enhanced) version of this amp?

The other thing is that amp will not fit on your radio. For our RG you need to put it in between the inner fairing and the glove box. I super velcro'ed it and it has never moved one inch.

Does it matter what side of the fairing you mount it?

MassHD thanks for the tip.
Abone, I am getting the BX amp but I don't know how much of a differance there is between the two of them.

I am looking forward to putting this in my bike.
