I have installed my stereo on my 2010 RGC over a coupel nights, working
a few hours a night. I used the HK radio and used the speaker level
inputs on the amp. I used pins 1,2 and 24 25 on the unused terminals
for the rear speakers. I used a 4 channel amp.
I have never taken my outer fairing off before this and did lots of
research before diving in.
I chose the Soundstream line of products after visiting a local shop
and saw that they had an Soundstream amp they wanted to use.
A few tips:
When installing the 6.5" speaker adapters, not the cone style, rather
the flat ones, after following the instructions provided, take a file
or grinder and file down the speaker mounting area flat. The screw
heads stick up a bit and won't allow the speaker to sit flush.
I found switched power from a 4 pin harness under the seat.
I found the 15 pin molex plugs, pins and heat shrink at Fry's
Electronics. I found the 2 pin power connector molex at Radio shack.
I made a grid of 7/8" wide squares and drilled 0.5" holes with a step
bit for the rear speakers, 37 holes per side.
Since I used 8" speakers I had to make my own speaker rings with 0.75"
MDF and a rotozip. I made 4 before I was happy with them fitting flush
with the bag. Lots of trial and error and fiing from a rasp file.
Mounting the amp was tough. I wanted to stash my half helment in the bag so that dictated how to mount the amp. The best way to secure the plexiglass mounting plate for the amp was with the screws that held the "saddlebag lid tether thingie." I wired up the amp and made sure everything worked.
Oh yeah, label everything all wires, left right - or +, everything.
I am sure there are better ways to do some things that I've done.
Anyway on to the pics:
